Advice/Tips: Completing my first RESPA tomorrow

Hi there–

I’m a fairly new notary, and I’m completing my first RESPA tomorrow with a client through a company that hired me.

The company already sent the documents to the client.

Any advice with these? And how many pages are they generally?

I’m not sure what to expect other than making sure the client signs the documents with the appropriate colored pen, I get a copy of their ID, they sign/initial in the appropriate places and then I gather the paperwork afterward to mail it off.

Any advice would be appreciated. THANKS!

Nikki

My only piece of advice on this (and sorry this is so late) -

Make sure your agreement with the company is to be paid within xx days - if I were you I would not agree to “we pay when the loan closes” - if it never closes you’re out of luck.

Also, company should give you a list of what supporting documents they want you to pick up and return to them with the app - I’d confirm in advance with the signer that they have all of the documents ready - so you don’t end up sitting there waiting while they go through years’ worth of accumulation to find what you need.

Hopefully this went well for you. Hope you have priced yourself appropriately - these can take just as long as the closing takes.

Thanks. Did just that.:grinning:
