I had one earlier this week that was a Refi for 9:00 pm tonight and the fee was $70. I just laughed and moved on. As slow as it has been here the last week or so, it hasn’t been take a refi for $70 at 9:00 pm at night slow. That signing service is 45-60 days to pay too.

When did $125 become $70? I don’t remember getting that memo.

It’s only $70 if you accept $70. That’s all I know. I NEVER work on Sunday. Was asked to do something on Sunday. 2 miles from me. I asked for considerably more than what I normally charged for down the street. Because Sunday. I try to never work on Sunday so I always bid huge in the hope I don’t get it.

Well, if you’re serious about this business, you take every income opportunity that comes your way. A $70 check is better than no check at all, and if you do this every day, you’ll end up with a whopping $350 by week’s end. 😕 Real bragging rights to your spouse or significant other who’s actually bringing home the bacon.

\<\<\<A $70 check is better than no check at all"…\>\>\>

Please tell me you’re kidding? That’s only true if your costs are zero. Once you account for mileage, print costs, supplies, time in transit, and the administrative tail of every signing, that $70 can net $20-30 in actual profit — if that. Accepting that fee isn’t income, it’s subsidizing the signing service’s margin with your own expenses.

Running a business means knowing your numbers, not filling your calendar. A notary who takes every low-fee assignment to stay busy isn’t building a business — they’re funding someone else’s. Five $70 signings that net $25 each is $125. Two direct-hire signings at your actual rate is likely double that for half the effort. I’ll offer a real example: I just completed a direct-from-escrow signing at $300. No signing service in the middle, no margin extracted, full fee for professional work. That’s the math in practice. The goal isn’t a full schedule. It’s a profitable one.
