@debbrayost Very interesting question indeed . . .

I performed a cursory **Search** on “LLC” within the GOLDMINE in the Notary Cafe database utilizing the _ **Magnifying Glass** _ feature. There are MORE THAN _ **238 threads** _ found.

Here are a few threads that you may find germane & informative to the intent of your query:

> [@W-9 ( SSN vs TIN vs Fed EIN )](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/w-9-ssn-vs-tin-vs-fed-ein/2588):
>
> Hello all, The SSN is one area to vastly lose control of your identity and widely misused. As per IRS, any payments over $600 per year must be reported on 1099 Misc. So going by this argument, Is it necessary to provide my SSN to every person or entity that requests w-9 for payment , if the entire years work is under $600. or even for just a one time payment of $75 I have rejected the request of w-9 and demanded payment and obtained it, when i said that they are paying me under $600 and henc…

> [@Ein before LLC?](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/ein-before-llc/18727):
>
> Just passed my nsa test and ready to get the ball rolling. What comes first, getting my ein or LLC? Reason I ask because I was filling out the ein application on [irs.gov](http://irs.gov) and one question was “what type of legal structure is applying?” Should I check box for LLC although I haven’t gotten there yet or just sole proprietorship for now? Thanks all!

> [@LLC; What to use for business address](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/llc-what-to-use-for-business-address/23585):
>
> I’ve searched through the forum and can’t find anything about this topic. I live in Texas, so for those of you who live here, and have an LLC, who do you use as your registered agent? I don’t mean the name of the specific individual; is it a company, an attorney, or possibly a business partner? Do you use your home address as your business address, or a virtual office, or a UPS mailbox, or something else? I am not asking for legal advice. I just want to find out what is commonly done. It migh…

> [@How to create a LLC?](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/how-to-create-a-llc/23097):
>
> In reading posts, I’ve read that some people think it’s good to create a LLC to protect your personal assets. I’ve been looking on the IRS website, but don’t actually understand it all. For those of you that have a LLC, how do you create the corporation? The IRS website says that if the LLC is a single member, but not classified as a corporation, it is a disregarded entity and taxes are done as your individual taxes (at least that’s what I understand). Do I need to get an EIN first, or set …

> [@LLC Questions from a new notary](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/llc-questions-from-a-new-notary/16708):
>
> Hello all, I am a fairly new notary and NSA, and I’m looking into making an LLC. One youtube video said to wait until you’re making six figures to declare an LLC… I’ve only just started so that number is not in my immediate future. My question is, if making an LLC allows you to deduct business expenses, what is the advantage of waiting? When would you recommend starting your LLC? (or S-Corp, I’m still not sure which is the best fit for me so I’m looking into my options here) I would love to …

> [@LLC or DBA](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/llc-or-dba/34301):
>
> I know this has been talked about a lot on this forum but I just watched a very good video from a lawyer on why it is important to form an LLC. I currently run my business as a DBA but I will be changing that next month. I would love to hear your thoughts! P.S. Please keep responses good and clean;) This may help someone!

> [@LLC + General E & O or Signing Agent E & O](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/llc-general-e-o-or-signing-agent-e-o/17293):
>
> Fairly new signing agent with some legal questions here! (A disclaimer: I’m aware that most people here are not lawyers, and any advice should be taken with a grain of salt and verified with an actual lawyer) I am in contact with a company who wants $100k Errors and Omissions Insurance, so I’m upping my coverage from my existing $30k general E and O policy. I am allowed to have either general E and O, or signing agent specific E and O. In my state (Texas), a 100k general E and O policy for a…

> I’m a notary but not a LSA yet. Taking that course now. When do I set up a LLC name? Do I even have to have a LLC set up?

> [@Do you need to have a LLC](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/do-you-need-to-have-a-llc/7816):

> With E&O do you still need to establish a LLC if si which kind

> [@Are you a sole proprietor or an LLC?](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/are-you-a-sole-proprietor-or-an-llc/1739):
>
> Thinking of becoming an LLC just for added protection of personal assets. Has anyone else made the change OR considered it and decided to remain a SP? Just wondering how you decided what structure to adopt and what your reasoning was - thanks!

> [@Should I have an LLC](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/should-i-have-an-llc/10731):
>
> I am just starting out and wondering if I should start an LLC or is just keeping going as I am.

> [@Llc & dba's](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/llc-dbas/31078):
>
> Ok, so I’m looking to change my notary business name to something other than my name. An LLC keeps anyone else in my state from using the name I choose & protects me from any lose. My question is do I put the LLC in the name I’m commissioned & insured under & then DBA the other names? But then I wouldn’t be securing my new name at all. Oh my??? I know your not attorneys but maybesomeone has done this?

> [@Business Licenses](http://forum.notarycafe.com/t/business-licenses/21137):
>
> I’m in Nevada, and I just learned that wherever you perform notary work in Nevada, you need a business license either in the County and/or City that you perform notary work. The rule is “If you are making money”. Each place / most locations will charge a $150.00 admin fee to process the paperwork, and then the license itself is $150.00 - so your first out of pocket fee starts at $300.00. Not all counties/cities are like that, though. What’s it like in your state?

Many members state that the _ **Magnifying Glass** _ is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find. In case you’ve experienced difficulties locating it, this should help.

To be helpful, I’ve inserted an image for you & others [_see below_] to help members locate it to unlock the wisdom & knowledge of other members on the forums.

 ![image](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex034/uploads/notarycafe/original/3X/3/1/31538837c8f17363ddc97ab51ff9cc1aeff4199c.png)

Also, since you identify that you’re new . . . It’s always wise to _ **research & vet a new client** _ prior to providing a definitive confirmation to them for your initial Signing Order for them. A great start of research would begin within the Notary Cafe forums _ **Search Function.** _

Accessing the database to locate info about _ **potential clients** _ has saved many of us an inordinate amount of time ‘chasing’ payments for Services professionally provided to potential **non-payers**. . .

======
FYI: A request has been submitted on numerous occasions [_to BRIGHTEN the Magnifying Glass_] over the years to the Notary Cafe Team Leads to make it much easier to locate that feature.

That request has been reportedly passed onto the programmers of the site =\> that members find it _ **difficult to locate** _ the Search Function in order to access the wealth of info available within the database.

_So far, no update has been made available & no alteration in the brightness or visibility of the Magnifying Glass._ Thank You, @Carmen_Lane , for mentioning it previously as well.
