I discovered something today and am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. One of the areas I travel is very remote and therefore hard to get a signing agent to go to. I often go to this area for a higher fee that signing companies are unhappy to pay but they do it when they realize I am often the only one who will even consider going there. So an offer comes through on Signing Order for this city and I reply with my fee and immediately get assigned. Before I even get a chance to confirm, I get another offer for the exact same time and date for the same city. Excited that I may be able to do both signings, I open the offer to find out it is for the exact same signing at the same address but with a different signing company. I call the 2nd company, ask if they are affiliated (they are NOT) and explain what’s happening to which she was just as confused as I was. I email the 1st company to let them know and ask why to which they reply that title is probably shopping for a better fee and to stand by. In the last two hours, I’ve seen the same order come though three more times, one even on a different platform. At this point, I’m not sure if I’m not sure if I’ll be doing the signing or if they are going to “cancel” it last minuet. I am in no way a new signing agent but this sure is a first for me! Has anyone else experienced this?
I also provide services to remote areas few notaries will travel to, and I see that as well.
Yes that happened with me but the area was not remote. First order came through SO and then a couple of days later I seen it pushed out by the closing exchange. It ended up being offical through SO but it was the most painful conversation between the two companies, I was worried two notaries were going to show up with packages to sign.
Recently, yes! And if I respond that I’m not available I continue to receive the offer, multiple times.
Yep, it’s happened to me too. Signing orders aren’t always exclusively with one company. Sometimes title companies use different signing services. I’ve even had another LSA show up at the same place for the same signing order, assigned by two different signing services! I’ve seen times where a title company sent out their own signing orders using an another signing service.
Yes this is part of the business, happened to me this past week…was able to raise my counter fee $75 with the second SS . If it smells like a “shot-gunned out” offer…it usually is
