Hi everyone,

I notice a few questions concerning pricing from new signing agents. I want to offer some advice as a business owner of multiple businesses past and present. No one can legally share with you what they charge, if they do it’s called price fixing and it is illegal. However, I can offer this advice (business 101) know what a signing is costing you. That’s everything from equipment, supplies, gas, auto expenses, etc… then add to that a margin of what you would like to make, this could be any number, retail and restaurants like to use 20% but you use whatever number works for you. Just remember the margin is what you are actually making everything else is an expense. If you do this you will always ask for the right amount from the signing companies. I hope this helps 👍

When I started in this business I knew what was involved … And I referred back to a car salesman (believe it or it! LOL). Who once asked us, after long deliberations…“what will it take to make you comfortable with this car and the car payments…because you have to be happy with both” …and that’s been my guideline…what make ME happy to do this signing. What makes me feel that I’ve been treated fairly and I have made enough money to keep me afloat and makes me feel good about doing the signing. And from that I developed a not unreasonable fee schedule and stuck to it.

I’ll chime in on this one: “asking a charge” if you are a CUSTOMER is OBVIOUSLY legal. Asking a charge if you are a COMPETITOR (sometimes pretending to be a customer) is much different, and yes, can lead to trouble, and it does not require any “collusion”. (Per the Federal Trade Commission).

>
> Price fixing is an agreement (written, verbal, or inferred from conduct) among competitors to raise, lower, maintain, or stabilize prices or price levels.

It’s the qetting your asking price that is challanging.
