Had to get a scanner because my printer scanner was jamming and driving me crazy so I got a fast scanner and it only took me forever to get it functioning.

And when I tried to create fewer files I ended up with a file over 100 MB because well I have no idea why.

Guess I’ll have to work on that part. But it is so much faster than my printer’s scanner so I can say so far I’m happy I did that.

It also convinced me I’ll never mobile scan. Other than my Adobe scan on my phone.

I’m not old. You’re old.

It’s a Plustek. Very fast. I just have to figure out some settings. Files are still kind of big.

Unless you have a van where you can spread out a little, it must be unbearably uncomfortable printing and/or scanning in a passenger car.

I didn’t get it to mobile scan. I got it because my printer scanner was jamming and I wasn’t going to buy a new printer yet.

Im old too. Bought my scanner on ebay. That way the technology may be a little older! File size should be related to DPI. Scanning at 1200 DPI creates a much bigger file than scanning at 300. Generally 300 creates a good text scan. Mine adjusts on the software when I open the program.

Thanks for your info. Do you have to scan page by page (I imagine you would), but for a 200 pg Re-Fi it seems like a nightmare. Also, I was hesitant to use Adobe Scan b/c it lists as AI PDF scanner, and worry about any security breaches b/c of it.

No it scans up to 50 pages at a time. Anyone who is scanning mobile needs to worry about security. If you’re using a wifi on the road it’s not secure.

Check if it’s scanning for color vs black and white. (text mode)

and I assume it is deleteing blank pages right?

@johnsonps306 - Insofar as file size, you may want to check if it’s scanning as Photo rather than PDF and also if it’s scanning in color rather than black and white.

Congrats on your new scanner!

When Windows did a security update on my computer all of my scans turned into over 10 MB files. It also deleted my icon to scan. Brother printer had to be reinstalled so now I’m having to scan a different way. I don’t know why and my conspiracy theory brain is saying they want me to purchase more space on their Google platform. I’m going to have to start zipping my scans and hope my clients will tolerate this. I had issues with the first scanning right after a job I was in the middle of completing. Talk about sweating it!!

Oh I put it on 100. It’s not a gorgeous scan but no one has squawked. And the files are small.

AI Overview

You can reduce and condense your scanned file sizes using the [Plustek Advanced Scan Settings](https://plustek.com/a/smartscan/eng/advancedscansettings.htm) or your scanning software’s control panel. [[1](https://plustek.com/a/smartscan/eng/advancedscansettings.htm)]

**Adjust Scan Settings**

- **Lower the Resolution:** Change the DPI setting from 600 or 400 down to **200 or 300 dpi** , which is clear enough for standard text documents while drastically shrinking the size.
- **Change Color Mode:** Switch from **Color** to **Black & White** (for plain text) or **Grayscale** instead of keeping full 24-bit color.
- **Increase Compression:** Move the Compress-Level slider toward the lower/high-compression side to make the file smaller.
- **Choose the Right Format:** Save as a compressed **PDF** or **JPG** rather than a heavy, uncompressed TIFF file. I finally found this set up instruction. I also like that you can save various profiles so a beautiful clear scan is possible for the pickiest title officer. And finding B/W was a good thing also.
