How many times do I need to hear about how easily criminals are using a fake notary stamp to steal my property? Are we unjustly being harmed by this commercial?
Yes we are. I’m seeing something similar in my Tax Practice. Ads are being broadcast that fake Tax Practitioners are steeling your refunds (they are) or selling your protected information (they are). This is due to the fact that most Tax Payers don’t know how to vet their Tax Professional.
How is it that the homeowner gets scammed and it is their problem? It would appear to me that the bank got scammed. I didn’t loan anyone money based on fake documents. This should be a problem for the bank to resolve.
Process server? I’m impressed. My point of this thread was to call out TITLE LOCK for using the possibility of a clueless Notary Public to scare homeowners into buying their internet app.
I have seen the ads and looked into it a bit. It isn’t a clueless notary but a copied or just made up notary stamp that is used. Every time you notarize something there is a possibility someone could duplicate your stamp and use it. Keep a journal.
My frustration is that the homeowner is on the hook for this fraud when it should fall back on whoever accepted the fraudulent documents.
Impressed by process serving? It’s nothing like the movies. Most of the time I call and make an appointment to meet. I served one guy so many times we actually became friends.
Contact your local attorneys and ask if they need papers served. You may even make new friends. (most likely not)
Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a process server handing someone papers that they’re being called into court and then being invited in for coffee.
Location location, I did a bit of process serving in San Diego. We were advised to carry pepper spray or a firearm in some cases. Would you believe loan signing pays better?
@rummings Interestingly, there are some County Clerk Offices across the US that have created a Recording Notification Service that if any document is filed on:
- Address
- Owner Name
- Parcel #
- Etc.
The Recording Notification Service is designed to notify a citizen by email when a document is recorded.
The Court Clerk specified that it’s much easier to manage the fraud when it’s caught early . . .
