Notary Journal

Texas allows the notary to configure/create their own journal as long as every element needed for the journal record is captured. I usually pre-fill the journal entries before meeting with the signers. I have the signers enter their information [name and mailing address] by hand as I’m setting up. I then instruct the signers to place their signature in my journal as I observe and compare their signature to their ID. This gives me a sample of both their handwriting and signature in case there’s a question about who was present. Texas forbids recording any Bio-metric information or DL/ID/SS numbers.

I also pre-populate the notary certificate before I arrive. This leaves only placing my signature and stamp on the certificate. I’ve found these steps reduce time at the table.
