This forum could be a great place to learn, but it not all you hear are gripes about fees.

Answered your own question. I use that time to review my bulletin board info, update credentials and identify some local mortgage brokers or title signing companies. Made 1 connection and sent them my info. I am now a go to in this area. Middle of the month slacks off and more competition for lowball offers amongst the newbies and desperate notaries with no idea what their expenses are. It will eventually sort itself out. I get enough business with holding the line on fees. Suffice it to say I do not touch my door handle for less than a $100. Experience = quality = more profitable work.
