Signer taking a photo of my DL

Yes absolutely I understand what you are saying and I am not saying that it is LAW to present the borrowers with our government issued ID, merely that it is BEST PRACTICE to do so. Any signing agent touting themselves as a NNA certified notary signing agent (as I do :blush:) tries their best to follow best practices as long as they do not conflict with their own state law.

I would certainly NOT advocate or permit a signer to take a picture of my ID. And if that is what you think I have been saying, it is a misunderstanding.

Sorry, but NO that is not normal. I don’t think I would have allowed them to take a photo of my DL. My question would be why did they need it and what would they use if for. Title wanted the photo not you so why would they want a photo of your DL? I would let them know if they did not want me to take a photo of their DL then I would need them to provide a copy of their DL front and back so I could include it with their paperwork. If they did not want to exercise that option then I would have to call the hiring company or title to let them know the situation and ask how I should proceed.

Once in a while, a signer will ask for my ID. I show 'em my driver’s license (never hand it over) and that’s it. I always have it ready. As a practical matter, if I’ve made the appointment on the phone, gave them my name and the appointment time, asked them to prepare for the signing, show up on time and introduce myself as the notary, who the heck do they think I am - some imposter? I never enter anyone’s private premises until invited in and I never go first into any room. I allow them to lead me to the place of signing and I ask which chair I may use. Many times, I produce my business card. I always identify myself and provide evidence when asked in keeping with recommended NSA practice, but as I said, that doesn’t happen often.
