Any Connecticut Notaries Out There? Fees

I’m a little confused here. I know all about how in CT we are not allowed to do Real Estate closings. However I am caught up on the fees. The manual states $5 a signature and .35 a mile. How is it that I am seeing notaries charging much more than that for GNW?

Is this legal?

I’ve seen ‘administration’ and ‘convenience’ fees… legal? I dunno. At $0.35/mi., CT needs a slap upside the head so they wake up to reality.

I know. I get the IRS rate of 65.5 cents for my day job.

The IRS rate is intended to compensate you for the expense of owning and driving a car. Unless you have a cheap, high MPG car and don’t pay much for car insurance, at that rate you break even. A notary should be allowed to also charge for the time spent driving, just like a taxi driver does. At your day job, if you drive to do something for you employer, you draw your normal salary or hourly wage while you drive, in addition to the 65 ¢/mile, right?
