đŸ€” Be A Successful Business Owner - Develop Critical Thinking Skills

TO NOTARY CAFE MEMBERS WHO ARE NEW TO THIS BUSINESS SECTOR:

If your goal is to develop into a successful business owner, then you owe it to yourself to Review the following insightful & helpful information.

Remember that launching a business as a Signing Agent isn’t a sprint, it’s a marathon!

  • There are many skills that you may have already honed to reach this point in your professional development. It’s integral to your success to also develop your critical thinking skills.

.

There is a very large difference between being an employee and becoming a business owner.

As a business owner, from the onset, you’re going to be pretty much flying solo; that is, unless you have a family member that is within this business sector.

There are no Manuals of Desk Instructions [MDIs] as one may find as an employee nor any more experienced fellow employees there to train you.

The standards of practice that you’re seeking are to be found by being curious and seeking training & certifications on your own as a professional business owner who strives to provide professional services to your clients.

.

ALWAYS remember to gather your information from multiple RELIABLE sources.

After gathering all the input, evaluate the data you’ve amassed and then make the determination of what is truthful & accurate. At that point, you may have sufficiently prepared yourself to make a viable decision . . .

Each Notary Café Member owes it to themselves & their business to always maintain an active critical thinking process.

.

One must be ALERT to the fact that some Notary Café Members own Signing Services [SSs], but they present themselves as individuals on the forum threads . . .

Some of those will identify they’re ‘receiving large fees’ for the Signing Orders [SOs] as a Professional Signing Agent [PSA]. This is said in an effort to generate interest in them or in a business they’re endeavoring to launch. OR, they’ll advocate for you to accept low fees (to increase their portion of the Profit).

[NOTE: This is not directed at any one individual or SS]

.

When you see these types of posts . . . A few good questions to ask yourself are:

What does this individual stand to gain as a result of their input?
Is it in your best interest that they’re offering the information?
Or, is it something else?

.

  • Always employ critical thinking skills
  • Make decisions from a business owner viewpoint (not an employee)
  • Research & follow the Regulations & Statues within your own State for owning, launching, & operating a business
  • Utilize your individual State Notarial Handbook for insights & guidance for establishment of a foundational baseline to operate from for your business decisions
  • Undergo a reputable professional training program; i.e., Notary2Pro NOTE: I receive no compensation or remuneration of any type or kind as a result of my reference to Notary2Pro.
  • Review the Signing Order [SO] instructions in detail prior to reaching out to the hiring entity for clarifications
  • Seek out the guidance & support of fellow business owners via a reliable & professional online format; i.e., Notary Cafe

.

GENERAL DECISION GUIDELINE:

  1. Employ critical thinking skills.
  2. Consider the source
  3. Evaluate the potential ulterior motive
  4. Trust your instincts

For those who began around 2011 as Notary Signing Agents after the 2008 industry collapse, if you were offered $100 to do a signing today’s inflation since then is

$100 in 2011 is worth $143.62 today

Of course, the overhead inflation since that time is rather huge in terms of paper, toner and gas depending where you live.

The long term agencies benefited dramatically keeping the same payment amount after all these years. Many automated features makes their jobs far easier today. The agency’s job is far easier relying on notaries to fill in online forms in databases.

Unlike previous prep of docs from title companies that overnighted the packages with post-its, notaries are now required to print two copies and prep the docs. To this day the amount of pages in one package can be as high as 150 pages or even more.

This line of work is tedious, demanding and far underpaid in most cases. Since the agencies are the only winners in this process, it’s the only reason why they keep going on this path that only benefits themselves.

The agencies often scapegoat notaries for their oversites from my recollection. The worth of this type of work should only be a plan to get experience in your own notary business if you live in a prosperous area.
