Closing scheduled with no ID?

Why would a title company schedule a closing with a buyer who has no ID? Send me to do the closing with a “By the way there is no ID, will this be a problem?”

@rockinghamnp Good question. If they’re based in another state . . . they may have other guidelines regarding confirming signer identification.

Personally, I’d first use the Notary Primer/Handbook for your home state as a reference to guide you further. At that point, you can progress accordingly to address the situation based upon those guidelines.

In California, there is a process, though complicated, for handling this. Check your state’s handbook
