Hi everyone. I’m a new NSA in the field and yesterday (Mon) I accepted my first mobile assignment for a settlement case, just doc signing. I discovered critical errors like wrong names in the pkg to be signed & was able to confirm with my point of contact as per pkg instructions. Since I’ve still yet to make contact with the signer to confirm the appointment, now I’ve been questioning whether I should continue with the order or make contact to decline, since Im now waiting again on a status update to move forward from “to be determined”. After finding the errors, it just looks bad on their behalf to be honest. Shouldn’t I be able to decline it since I originally had till this upcoming Friday April 24th to complete the assignment? Thanks for your input.
The big question is, do you feel comfortable in waiting to get the packet corrected? If so, keep the appointment. If you feel uneasy, contact the signing agency and ask for an estimated time when the packet will be corrected. This was a great catch on your part, and you’re right…bad look for those that prepared these documents. If the deadline is in jeopardy of being kept, let them know you appreciate the assignment, but you will have to decline. Communication can go a long way.
I just had a situation where the address was avenue vs. street, and when I questioned it, the signing company gave the assignment to someone else. in the community where the appointment is, there is both. ok with me that it was reassigned, but I didn’t spin my wheels or have to stop the signing because of wrong info in the docs., it would have been on me to show up at the correct address with the correct info in the docs. would have been a huge waste of time to go to the wrong address or have wrong information that should have been caught before it was even assigned. sooo…
the other lesson here is no one is going to ever by 100 percent perfect. Lenders, signing companies and notaries all have the same goal: to get documents executed correctly as it affects multiple lives during the process.
congratulations on becoming an NSA.
Thank you for replying! So, not long after I posted this AM, I did reach out to the signing company POC and briefly shared how I would not like to move forward as courier/field service agent by respectfully being removed from the assignment, since the delivery/signing date had been changed to TBD after I brought the error to their attention and they respectfully obliged. By them having to move the status back to TBD, it would put me in an “unavailable” spot with having other obligations already scheduled around appointment. However, I thanked them for the opportunity and expressed my wishes to be considered for future assignments. Thanks for the “Congrats” too. ![]()
Anytime! Part of being a member of NNA is to share our experiences. I am so glad that you got it resolved and have other appointments as well.
While we don’t want to provide legal advice or be “in people’s business,” we do have an obligation to review the packet and make sure of no blanks, potential name errors, etc. I think you are well on your way to being successful. See you in the forums, but don’t hesitate to reach out if you need to. I will do my best to respond as quickly as possible.
I would wait until TBD turns into an exact time and date. Then, if it didn’t work with my schedule, I would turn back the assignment. Hiring parties typically don’t have any problem with this approach. They understand that we can’t sit around waiting for them to get their act together to accept other jobs. We all have to do what’s best for our own business.
Thank you all so much and I will keep that in mind. Asking for permission to make a correction was the farthest thing from my mind as a new signing agent but I do get your point. As time goes on I’m sure I will be in a better position to make such a decision. I appreciate you and your input as well! ![]()
Yes, I do agree with you, which is why I ultimately decided to request my removal from the assignment due to me having other scheduled obligations as well otherwise I would have continued the assignment. I’m very appreciative of you all responding with kindness and encouragement too. I’m sure I’ll be in here often with questions, as my journey deep into the notary loan signing world continues. ![]()
