Disappointed with The Closing Group

Haven’t worked with them often, but just received a very disappointing e-mail for a signing–140 page Refi w/scan for $50. (Auto expenses alone are 4/5th of that!) No way to counter–except to say ‘fee too low’ as it isn’t even in my county. They then did call for a quote–which I doubt they’ll accept considering the lowball original offer.
Sad state of this biz now as the last time I worked with them was 2019 and they paid $75 for a 44 pages/NO scan that was only 4 miles away.

I just received an email for a signing from this company and figured I would check their record here since I never worked for them before. Surprised to see this post soon as I opened the 411 group. I already knew $70 for 175 pages sounds way too low.

@Arichter Thank You for sharing your direct experience regarding this business entity.

Concur :100: percent with your assessment @arichter:

"a very disappointing e-mail for a signing–140 page Refi w/scan for $50. (Auto expenses alone are 4/5th of that!) . . . Sad state of this biz now "

Lower prices & higher service demands have been devolving for a while now, but are currently at an all-time LOW.

Well, now…they’ve gone thru 60, 70 & currently at 80. Thus far, no takers. I’ve seen this scenario way too often: either the SS keeps playing this game until all area NSAs have accepted other better-paying jobs and nobody can take it OR the same job at a reasonable fee comes from another SS.

I get those kind of requests all day long from Mortgage Connect.

I’ve worked for Closing Group on a few occasions. Their rates were low but relatively competitive with other signing services. They, like some others, seem to have turned to the dark side.

Tomorrow I have my first signing with them. It’s 167 pages for $85. Somehow I accidentally got looped into an email from the title company and I saw that the title company was paying the signing service $130. Therefore I’m getting a 65% cut which seems pretty fair to me.

Agree. It is most signing services. I countered one and got a “its been assigned” return. There us always a cheaper “wh—” out there.

I think unless you only print one package and not have to reprint the complete package twice, this might work. Having to print 167 pages twice is almost a complete ream of paper; not to mention the depletion of your ink supply. Besides, isn’t this a REFI not an application? And, hopefully it is within a reasonably close proximity from your location. We have to consider our cost of doing business! IJS

I just let a signing with them go because it was a $50 signing, 130 page document, with 6 stamps, the 7th was on a blank acknowledgement with no reference to any other document. In the state of Washington we are allowed to charge $15 per stamp ($90), plus paper, and travel, I called them and told them the fee was too low, that it would need to be $100 minimum. They said they would take me off of the signing.

I’m okay with that, a $50 signing that would require, at minimum, 2.5 hours of my time to print, review, go to the signing, scan the docs back, and then go to Fedex or UPS to drop them. Seriously not worth my time or the expenses related to the signing.

@carol2 – Just out of curiosity … Why would you accept a $50 signing to begin with? Does their “offering” not indicate why type of signing is involved? Did it say it was a 1 document signing?

Like I said, just curious. Glad you requested a higher fee and that you’re fine with being taken off the assignment.

I don’t even respond to request like this anymore. I use this time to market or sign up with other SS.

Honestly, it was curiosity and the fact that they actually reached out to me directly.

I’ve done others out of curiosity, and found that they lived up to their reputation.
