Do we call the client if job was canceled?

There have been incidences where the job I was going to do for a company was canceled last minute. Or other jobs that I have done where the client tells me nobody called when previous appointments had been made thinking that the signing agent just didn’t show up. my assumption would be nobody followed through to let them know why.

Is it appropriate to call the clients if the job was canceled and let them know?
Or is it on the company to do that and we are not supposed to?

Thank you for your knowledge!

If by “client” you mean signer/borrower, my procedure was always if I had already been in contact with them to confirm the signing date and time, it’s only professional and courteous that I call them to let them know I’d been advised we were canceled and refer them to their loan officer. Most times when that happened they had no idea - so if I hadn’t called and told them they’d still be sitting there expecting me.

True Linda, my signing order is cancelled which was supposed to do that day eveing, I got SMS around noon time. I assumed that lender/title company conveyed about the cancellation of signing with the signer, apparently they have not told them.

Out of courtesy, i called signer to convey, saying that I am not coming for signatures because order got cancelled by lender/title company.

Usually the borrower finds out first but as a courtesy i send out a text to them as well to let them know as you were the assigned agent

Hi Denisa, Keep in mind you didn’t “set up” the appointment, your are simply “confirming” what someone else already set up with the borrower. Like others stated, 9 times out of 10 they will never notify the borrower of the cancellation (maybe even expecting you to do it). I will always notify the borrower not only out of common courtesy, but also for the simple fact that there is a good chance you may end up with the rescheduled appointment anyway because signing services don’t want to waste additional time searching for another signing agent (unless they want to take their chances at trying to find someone cheaper than you) which does happen as well.

I agree 100%. Some of the times I’ve called the client after a cancellation, they already knew. But most of the time they did not, and were very appreciative of my call.
