Do you reply "pay is too low?"

I think I have not been using the “negotiate” to my advantage. It is a place where you can set the tone for what a company can expect from you. Thanks so much!

Love the idea of adding “happily.” Thank you!

With algorithms are responses with comments handled by the algorithms or a person?

How about when it specifically states on the Alta: “XYZ Signing Company Fee $600”? I’m curious if I read that incorrectly.

I don’t pay much attention to what a signing service gets paid on the ALTA or the CD. How do I know what that includes. Recently did a sellers package all notary fees were included in that and they were sending notaries to 3 locations for sisters to all sign off on a property. Would $600 be okay for three trips? Everyone acts like this number is specific to them while it is not. So I don’t stress over those numbers. It’s counterproductive to take a job search for that number and then get upset when we have no idea what that number entails. Did I make a fee that was acceptable to me for a 30 page document that took 12 minutes? Why yes, yes I did $110 was just fine with me. That’s all that matters to me.

I agree with you. If I’m comfortable with the fee and feel it’s comparable to the work involved, I’m good with it. The signing I referenced was presented as a refi and ended up being an SBA business loan of over 300 pages x 2. When I called to discuss increasing the fee, I was told they understood and would get back to me. In the end, they gave me $10 more. The signing company walked away with $480 in profit that day. By the time I deducted my expenses for that signing, I worked for $3.56 an hour. Needless to say, I won’t be working for them again. Lesson learned. BTW, the lender rep. was at the table with us and remarked on my professionalism and ability to conduct the transaction. She said she’d request me for all her clients in the area. I don’t poach signing agency clients ever, but if ever I was tempted. . .

I hope you handed her your business card. I don’t think THAT is poaching a client. IMO.

No, I didn’t. I try to keep “Hands off,” when it comes to a signing agency’s clients. Having been self-employed for decades, I know how tough it is to secure a client. My feeling is that this agency will eventually run out of professional notaries and fail. Look at what happened to Timios.

Timios refused to accept counter offers. I think that’s what happened, as notaries gained experience they stopped taking those orders. But anyway. To each their own.

Absolutely. I did last night on one that was offered at $50. Told them I would do it for $150.

I have been doing that. Sometimes they up the pay. Sometimes they don’t. I have also experienced just answering that I am not available when it’s too low. They come back with a higher offer. Thanks for the input!

Can be brutal! I think my area is starting to have notaries that really NEED any extra money. Jobs are going for so low lately. God knows everyone has been there.

That has happened to me. “Seller’s docs” turned into a full buyer package with copies for the buyer.

I know it’s going to make me mad and I still look. Lol!

I feel like some companies add you to their favorites. But, who knows.
