Yes...higher fees are possible

Was just offered $200 for a Refi w/scanback. This was not due to a counter on my part.
It may have been sent out to everyone as someone may have countered at that fee.
MY POINT IS: Yes, they can and do offer more when they can’t find a fool.

Now it’s $250. See, they really can do much better than they normally offer.

I’ve been countering all offers. But I am in a very rural area where many contracts include a lot of miles. I think the pile of notary instructions I’ve started to receive indicate there are a lot of notaries who aren’t very competent. I get instructions that make me shake my head. Schedulers should just stick with the notaries they know are error free and offer them fees based on their record of contracts/locations. Leaving scheduling up to AI programs is a mistake. It’s why they are getting so manhy errors.

They always send offer for $70 with scan back. When I reply no. They will send the same assignment for $75 and of course my answer is no. They will keep on bumping up for $5 each time until someone says yes. We did not get this training to get paid less and han what we are worth for working.

…paid less than what we are worth? At rates offered, you’re lucky if it covers expenses.

Thanks Arichter! We are professionals, we are bonded, we are background checked, we carry E&O, we are trained, we are commissioned, we save clients time and money, we are the trusted professional who closes the deal. $200/$250 is a lot, but is nothing compared to the responsibility, time, material and effort we put into a signing.

@darrel_munsey – Agree! Now if all other NSAs out there were of the same mindset, things would be vastly different.

Imagine how much time they’d save by just offering a decent fee from the get-go and not playing this game. Gee, imagine, fee agreement and immediate assignment of signing, docs may actually be ready early.

I don’t keep track of how often this happens, but it isn’t a rarity: The $5 increase game goes on for way too long…and by the time they finally reach what I’ve consistently countered at, one of several things has happened: I’ve accepted another job or it’s now too late to meet the desired time. I also know that this $5 increase is something that is ‘set’ by hiring party to do automatically (or not–their choice). Incredibly idiotic and so annoying that I’ve blocked companies who do this.

I agree! If everyone would stop taking $85 and less for a refinance the signing agencies will increase their prices.

Any notary taking chump change (fees that don’t cover your costs for the engagement) are doing a disservice for those of us trying to charge a fair and reasonable fee. Doing so, is a “fool’s gold,” approach and hurts all of us.

Spot on…as usual from a real pro!

Agree 100%. I have seen so many higher offerings this past week. I’ve been able to cash in on 3 high ones myself that doubled from what they would normally offer. For some reasoon work was at almost a stand still for me this summer. The offers were insulting. When i decided to counter, my normal fees weren’t being met. I agree that a lot of new notaries out there must have been doing them at a much lower fee because the instructions on the offer page alone were ridiculous. I just wasn’t going to deal with the back amd forth. You either pay my counter or I will not work. I’m fortunate enough though to be able to not work if I don’t want to. My husband has a good paying job that most of my money just goes into savings and extra money. Things seem to be getting a bit better in my area. Im waiting to see if that half point interest rate reduction will bring back some refinancing.

I too negotiate each offer. I am in an area where it’s normal for me to have to drive an hour one way……I am amazed at how my negotiating usually leads to no order….so this tells me many are still taking the low offers😕

There always will be starters who are going just to learn and make their record shine! So what is the you tube advertisement showing how fun is it. This is a regulated market ! There isn’t a law to change it.
