How many notaries make six figures (gross) in a year?? Let’s say a really busy notary makes $100,000 in eleven months. That’s $9,090 average per month every month! That’s $454 per day, every day! or roughly $150 for each signing on average. Possible, but not likely. Oh, sure, there’s gotta be some notaries that score $375 jobs, maybe even a lot of them. But, c’mon kids, there are very few $100k bonus babies out there. I’d sure like to hear from a few on this site.
In 2021 when interest was still at 3% I was grossing six grand a month easily. These days if I gross $3500 a month I feel super successful. I think five grand a month gross is a fair target. It’s like Gregory House says - everybody lies. But fees are so regional in nature. Someone in one area could regularly be getting $150 or more. But you really have to know your region. In a recent NNA Newsletter article it listed the top ten reasons a notary gets blacklisted. Accepting a job for one fee and then attempting to get paid more after accepting - if that’s a regular thing, a notary could find themselves without work. Negotiating counteroffers - you have to know your area. There are some areas notaries do NOT want to drive to in my area. I charge accordingly. I also have a published fees page posted on at least one platform. If you publish a fees page you have to stay in line with it. I never did believe the 100K number. But 60K gross is possible I think.
$60K a year for a good notary is certainly possible. That’s my target. Notaries that get the big fee (say, $300 or more per job) are usually getting that because they have to travel so far or there are so few notaries in the region. That’s not the case where I do business. I have thousands of notaries competing with me for the same jobs. A good fee is $150 and the average fee is about $75-80. I’ve found a way to make a profit on most of the orders I take (margin is about 70%). I also gross about $3,500 per month and I’m glad for it. Tough to do with so much competition. I’ve got my ways. . .
Bobby, 60k is considered average. Individuals like us are simply seeking opportunities that offer minimal stress levels.
Now the topic of this thread:
It is highly discouraged to bring an infant to a loan signing. I have three young great-grandchildren who are still in diapers, have short attention spans, and tend to be loud and messy. While I adore them all, they typically cling to their mothers, which would be quite disruptive at a signing table.
Loan signings should be a highlight of your day, where you can entrust your child to your spouse and enjoy some uninterrupted time to focus on your work.
Joe, there’s NO stress in this job!! Arrrghhhh

You can gross $60K. But I don’t net even close to that.
@ewing_joe Absolutely! ![]()
