For RON - 2+ signers, can they use same computer?

Hello, I’m a new CO RON and was wondering if you have 2 or more signers, do you recommend them to be in 2 different rooms (on 2 different devices) so as to minimize loud feedback? Do headphones work to help minimize the noise? And finally, I’ve been told that both signers shouldn’t use the same device, but it seems like it would be less complicated (tech-wise) if they were on the same computer. Thanks so much!

My state, Vermont, does not yet allow our notaries to do RON, so I don’t have the experience to say if two RON signers can use the same computer. I’d guess that what works on one platform might not work on another platform.

Headphones are great! They are the best way to avoid feedback. I take them for granted because of my amateur radio experience, with four radios running at the same time in a room.
(The guy in the picture isn’t me.)

Thanks so much! I appreciate your feedback.

Joining late, sorry.

I do a lot of RON. If signers are visible at all times, I will allow two signers to use the same computer. However, I clearly explain before starting the signing that the party not signing must lean back so that the video clearly shows they are not engaged. Just as all parties involved in the signing must remain on video throughout the entire process, so must their participation in each document. It’s very easy for someone to simply click when they see a signing block appear, so you have to watch closely to make certain that does not happen.

Remember at all times with RON, the video must clearly prove the identity of each person signing each document.

Hi Judi, if both signers are using the same computer, how does that work for Knowledge Base Authentication (KBA) questions?

Does Signer #1 go through the electronic document and sign everything electronically, and then Signer #2? Or are they both signing digitally at the same time?

Two signers can use the same computer, but each must pass KBA and credential analysis individually. Remind signers to stay visible on screen throughout the session.

Hello Carmen, each signer is required to complete their own KBA individually. They will navigate through the process separately within the platform.

So then Signer 1 goes through the KBA and digitally signs their loan documents with the RON Notary platform, then Signer 2 goes through the KBA and digitally signs their loan documents with the RON Notary platform. Not signing simultaneously. Do you ever have an issue with 2 signers using same computer accidentally closing the RON platform and prematurely ending the RON video as they try to switch from one signer to the other signer?

I use nexsys clear sign platform for title companies, it allows both signers to be on the system at the same time. If I recall, SignX’s platform operated in that manner as you described and I did have problems. That was one of the reasons that I switched to BlueNotary for my independent RON work.
