Since most notary questions can’t be properly answered unless the state where the notary issue arises is known, I think well-written notary forum software would automatically include the name of jurisdiction that commissioned the original poster.
AR - Notary Cafe has been around soooo long and technology changes daily, it seems.
A simple–but hard to remember to do it would be to put your ‘state abbreviation’ as the very first word in a post. Like I just did: AR is for Arkansas (but probably won’t remember every time).
Then again, in my case, it’ll probably only confuse people as ironically, my initials are also AR (Arichter)…which has caused a problem a time or 2 when I’ve corrected a doc & initialled the correction AR – which they tend to think is some crazy misplaced indication of my state–ARkansas. It’s a problem few have.
This has been a topic we have discussed internally, as well as with users in the past. In the end, @Arichter’s suggestion of including the location in the post, or adding it directly to your username, has proven to be the best solution.
While an automatic indication of the user’s location would be ideal, we have run into issues reagarding multi-state users while expoloring this option. Those that live close to a state border will sometimes get licensed in both states, and the software isn’t smart enough (yet) to distinguish what location a specific post is referring to.
There are other factors at play as well. We did not create the forum software from scratch, so there are features that we may not be able to implement if it interferes with the base code. Many forums try to hide user locations for privacy/safety reasons, so it is not uncommon to not have such a feature “built in.” For our own user’s privacy, I would prefer it be an “opt in” option when avaliable - not ALL questions require location awareness and some people prefer to not share that information unless needed.
If the option becomes easier to implement, we are always willing to revist it. However, at this time, location identifcation will remain up to the user’s discretion.
