Has anybody taken this course through NNA?
Are there any IFS’s on here? If so, how’s the business going for you?
Check your state notary laws to see if you can do this…and don’t believe that organization on everything they say…just because they say you can, tbey’ve been known to be wrong.
Found this:
Wow, thank you, Linda! Since you said that I researched and look what I found on Avvo, that an Immigration atty posted:
It is a dangerous path that you are considering. Even if states allow people to fill in forms, it is still considered ‘legal advice’ to recommend specific forms.
I’ll pass! No UPL violation for me, thank you very much.
I will be mindful of your advice on the NNA going forward. Definitely appreciate your response.
Interesting that this has come up!
I had a call last night, which initially started in English but when the caller asked if I spoke Spanish, it all went to Spanish. Call was from 323-570-4360, he said they’re in Bakersfield, CA. When I asked, he said he found me on 123 Notary and informed me they train people for immigration documents. I informed him, in California, notaries are not allowed to get involved with immigration forms (unless they’re an immigration specialist). He asked if he could email me some information. I said go ahead and he asked for my email address. I informed him he could use the email address listed on 123 Notary. He hesitated and stated it only listed my phone number. I told him to forget it – that I wasn’t giving him my email address. He asked again and when I said “No” he hung up.
Googling that phone number takes me to U.S. Immigration Law Center. Their courses are pricey. No thanks! Too much liability.
