LA Wallet ID's

Recently, I had a company (Maverick) reject an ID because it was an electronic copy. They wanted a scanned copy of the original by their software but not the electronic version. We will accept the LA Wallet version as a valid license if they do not have a physical copy. Do you have any suggestions?

So you’re referring to a Louisiana electronic driver license or state ID described on this web site?

Yes sir! Exactly, the gentleman doesn’t have the physical copy and presented this copy. Its been refused and payment is on the line.

I don’t have any suggestions about how to deal with Maverick.

I’m curious to know if the LA DMV or whatever entity commissions notaries in LA has provided you with any online tools to help you verify these electronic driver licenses. I know that with Apple ID entities such as stores and government offices can get special hardware and software that will “talk” to the iPhone to verify IDs stored in an Apple Wallet. As a notary, I don’t have access to these tools, and I don’t trust whatever I see on the screen of somebody else’s phone or computer. So all electronic driver licenses are a no-go for me.

I’m in Vermont which doesn’t issue electronic driver licenses.

The state of Louisiana has distributed this ID. LA Wallet has the Louisiana Dept of Wildlife fishing and hunting license, Driver’s license, Smart health Card, My vehicle information, Concealed Handgun Permit, and the Share/TSA documents on the app. They have added a Medicaid Health Plan Card on them as well. You can scan the barcode and it will bring up the desired information. They have been around for a few years. The Secretary of State and legislation states we have to accept them. The governor appoints notaries after we pass the state exam, and we answer to the Secretary of State.
I was hesitant to take them until we had no choice.

I’m going to say this is something Maverick will have to take up with the signer. If you’ve gotten the docs signed, notarized and returned, then it’s now out of your hands. Maverick is going to have to argue with the signers about the ID.

Due diligence and customer service is one thing, but your/our “involvement” goes only so far.

Thank you. They have been difficult on this one. The signing venue changed with Maverick’s permission and now I have to prove it was them, it was held outdoors and not in their home. The dealership has accepted their paperwork.

Hope this works out for you.

California has started a PILOT program for digital driver’s license/IDs. It’s limited in its use with only very few locations accepting it. In California, these digital IDs may not be used in place of physical IDs for notarial purposes.
