Hello when a signing agent works with many different documents and signers at times errors are made
I was wondering if anyone had stories to share on how the notary reviewed the document and possibly discovered the error or missed it
Thanks for sharing also if anyone has helpful ideas on how they review the documents after signing
Get used to checking your work over and over again. I generally look over each packet at least 3 times
while signing, checking before I leave, checking right after I leave, and checking just before I send it.
I had a few times where I was driving away from the signing and I had a wierd feeling in my body. I stopped the car at a gas station and looked at the paperwork and there it was, a missing date, or initial or somthing like that. Thank God. turned around and got it taken care of
@kovachicj Excellent query!
It’s my understanding that most professional signing agents [PSAs] double-check during the execution process as the documents are signed and then perform a triple-check once the entire document package has been executed.
Of course, this will only take a few minutes [~5 to 10] longer.

Specifically, I can only speak anecdotally from my own first-hand, direct experience.
My process is to Always remember to:
- Do the best work.
- Closely monitor the signers during the process keeping a sharp eye on the full signature, accurate dates including format, and ensuring initial placement where appropriate.
- Triple check the work BEFORE leaving the signing table.
- During the triple-check process, if I discover a signer error or my own oversight => I SLOW WAY DOWN & begin again at the beginning of the document package thoroughly checking once more.
- Be professional.
- Learn from every experience. Over time, this will generate a successful “toolbelt” of skills that will ensure you’re invaluable to your clients.
- Remember that we all make mistakes. If you make one, just determine what to do differently the next time & skip the self-flagellation with the cat-of-9-tails punishment . . .
Most common error? Accepting a low fee ‘for the experience’ and believing it will lead to higher fees. Yep. Really.
I am highly rated with the services I work for, so I always think I’m doing great. Then yesterday I got an email asking me to sign and get an affidavit notarized saying I’m aware I did not fill in the county on the mortgage I processed back in April. I missed it and apparently so did many others for it to catch up to me in December. That said, I always find it interesting that here in Michigan, I have to write in the county AND write in the county I was acting in, AND fill in the blank on my notary stamp imprint saying what county I was acting in. That is THREE statements of what county I was acting in, but the really important one is the one right below the State of Michigan? Nope, all three are just as important.
gotta love Michigan
