Notarization

If person’s face is recognizable on a drivers license is it okay to notarize a document if she is now divorced and her name on the license is different than what is on the document?

You need an additional id showing the name that appears on the documents.

Thank you for your input sir! Very helpful.

It depends on your state. I think in every state you would need some reliable proof that the divorce occurred, and what the names were before and after the divorce. What form that proof could take would depend on what state you were in.

Yes - state-specific - also doc specific. Not out of the question to use a f/k/a (formerly known as) in the doc AND in the cert - in FL it merely requires the signer’s representation to us that they were know by that name (or took title in that name)

Sooooo…Johnny - where are you located?

Fort Worth, Texas. Are you in Florida?

Yessir I am.

TX apparently requires you to be presented with original government issued ID containing a photo and a signature. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say the ID has to be current - given the fact that your signer’s ID contained her pre-divorce name, it would not be considered current so, no, you can’t use it. Your signer needs to get her ID updated unless she has a passport or other government issued ID containing the required elements (name, photo, signature).

Good Luck

NO! Document must match name she is signing and stated legal name exception a female who produces a BC and is married (this is 2nd form not primary)
