I’ve been with Notary Rotary since I became a notary and have gotten a lot of business through them. So sorry for your experience. I have been a member for 13 years.

I’m finding a lot of that going on in this business. Why not just file a dispute with your credit card company. They should be able to get that money refunded right away. And you have emails to prove that you tried. I don’t think that would be a problem to do. I dispute charges often and they get taken off immediately.

I started by getting educated through Loan Signing System. You need training in order to do this type of work. I also listened to all of the free youtube videos from Notary Coach. If you want to advertise for free, set up a free account on Google My Business, then post every day, about a different subject, ie loan signings, Trusts, Contracts, whatever you can think of. Learn how to use hashtags to make it more successful (google how to do it or go to youtube). You can also go to Assisted Living communities and get some general notary gigs but you will need to build up relationships with the receptionists/administrators. I did this and get alot of repeat business and get paid instantly. Being a notary is not an overnight success, but there are ways to get gigs with general notary that you will get money in your pocket quicker. You must always act/be professional. Notary forums are not for complaints, but for sharing successful actions. Take the successful actions and focus on those and you will be successful. Good luck!

I have been doing this for 30 years. I can help you. To all of you newbies out there be patient. Things do not happen instantaneously. You are running a new business right now. Please think of it that way.
A new business doesn’t just become successful overnight. I am hearing a lot of what you are saying and I am surprised that everyone thinks it happens instantly. Have you ever seen a new business become successful immediately. You have to work at it. I have gained a huge amount of contacts and business…I get at least 40 requests a day but it takes patience and work.
Atman where are you located? Don’t go crazy on the advertising. You need to hook up with businesses. I can guide you through that. I have only mentored one person before but I am here to help you if you needs. email me at mauiskater@mac.com. ALOHA from Maui.

Do not ask for a refund. They cannot promise you instant business…nobody can. But Notary Rotary is a great site and it is good you are on there. Just do not ask for a refund. They are a good organization. Also go to the part where they talk about the different companies. Protect yourself from bad companies by checking there. Peruse around the site. They have a lot of helpful things.
This is not rocket science. I can help you and you will be on your way. I don’t normally mentor because I am so busy but I am discovering that it doesn’t take long for people to start getting business with just a few pointers. Do not worry. I have been doing this 30 years…16 as a mortgage underwriter.

As a notary with 30 years experience this is great advise. ALOHA and thank you for your response to him Very valuable and accurate

I’m a member on Notary Rotary and I find their forums worth more than the $99 a year membership. I am in a very busy market and many times get phone calls from Title companies directly. I have to remember to ask them where they found me, sometimes it is from this website, other times from the NNA or from Notary Cafe.

I agree with the other experienced notaries that recommend you have to think about your branding. The logo and nick have to go. We are often the only people meeting with the customers in a long, complicated loan process and the title companies and lenders want to make sure the person representing them is professional in look and deed.
I would jump at the offers given to you to have mentoring. I got my start with a local notary who wanted out of the business and was looking for a successor to pass his contacts on to. He has since mentored another notary and I have also mentored two myself. The market has been very busy of late.
There are hundreds of signing companies out there and keeping track with how you are paid, where their portals are, their particular requirements is exhausting. My strategy is to work closely with a handful of companies that I know will pay me. It takes years of trial and error to get to this point.

I never beat the pavement handing out cards, but I have professional business cards printed. I have repeat business for private signings and my customers know that I will work them in ASAP. Most of them are flexible and I can usually sign them before or after a nearby assignment saving me on gas and time.

Good luck, remember that you can write off the $99 as a business expense. What I would do in this time while you are waiting is get your accounting set up. You will need to keep track of miles and notarizations to properly get your taxable income down. There are software programs out there, I am currently using an Excel sheet.

So you signed up on one registry for 3 days and nobody called? You are headed for a lot of disappointment in this business.

Hello,
NotaryRotary has been great for many years, but I don’t think many companies go there any more.
Not their fault.
SigningAgent.com is better, and then other than marketing yourself with Title and lenders… to get your feet wet try SnapDocs.com and its free.
I am a signing company, you can call me at 909-741-0551 let me help you get started.

LET ME REPEAT … MARKETING YOURSELF IS THE BEST WAY.
a place to get your feet wet is a signing company.
there is NO fraud here they just don’t get the traffic on their site like they used to.
I will sponsor you on the NNA site, and get you Fidelity Approved… let me help.

Do you make the customers you have for direct business sign a contract with you before every job?

The Fatman
I would file a complaint with your service provider who you paid the $99 with and start the procedure of getting your refund back. They will investigate for you.

In Colorado, title companies do a lot of their own signings, especially sales. Even though our market is insane there are probably about 1/4 or fewer the number of closings than 7 or 8 years ago. Title companies have downsized. That leaves refis for notaries.

I have noticed one thing about lenders that leaves us, at the bottom of their food chain, scrambling. That is their habit of leaving refi loan closings until the last possible minute before the loan lock expires. The old procrastination on your part really does create an emergency for me, especially if you are a notary.

Now, for me, anyway, my notary business has fallen off the face of the earth. It coincides with what was happening a couple of months ago with the refi slowdown. Per a friend underwriter, refis are very slow here.

On the plus side, I am also a partly retired real estate agent of 36 years. The bulk of my work is doing valuations for banks, which is usually part of a refi. That business slowed down a lot since last November. People caught up in election and then holidays. Now I’m busier than a one armed paper hanger. In March, I did 50 or so, and already have 8 this month. The pay on those these days is lousy, thus the notary transition. But I project out 45 to 90 days and the end of those loan locks, and I anticipate the notary biz will get crazy once again. So take heart.

To answer the posed question. 2 weeks, really? Did you think that joining a signing service and paying a fee would instantly put you at the top of their list and orders would come flooding in? Let’s say, they have 10 notaries in your area, all paying. They get 10 orders in your area this week. Most of the older guys with proven history will likely go first. Initially, the best you can hope for, is them throwing you a carrot now and then until you prove yourself. Signing up with multiple services plus any other marketing will improve your numbers. In addition to being a notary, you are a salesman. Your product is you. In real estate, it was often said don’t be a secret agent. You need to blow your own horn wherever you can. Some of the SS companies are free and then you can use some of that pay to reinvest in classes and marketing. The making100k a year right out of the chute does not happen as a rule in most markets. You really need 6 months of your expenses saved up when starting any new business. Just keep at it.

What company did that to you? Sorry to hear about that.

Never pay to play. Get on Snapdocs, and sign up with every signing service you can find, but don’t pay a dime. It takes a while to get started, but it will happen.

Good luck!

God bless you, thanks for the advice. Jesus is coming back soon.

What am i supposed to do with snap docs? What did I get from them? Ugats. I really don’t understand their site at all and they don’t explain the purpose of it either

It seems like you just want everything handed to you and not do any work on your own. If you don’t understand Snapdocs, perhaps you could watch a video explaining what/how they help signing agents.

It takes time and patience to become a successful loan signing agent. It will not happen over night and no one can do the leg work for you.

We as signing agents are always happy to help out newbies, but don’t expect us to do what you need to do on your own to become a good signing agent.
