Well, yes and no. The recession may explain lack of orders, but does not excuse lowering the prices offered for the same amount of work, recession or no.
Signing companies will bang notaries for lower fees when times are slow…thats my experience, especially the smaller signing companies. With interest rates at 7% and higher, expect this market action for notaries for a while. Its probably worth exploring direct contacts to title companies.
This company is very low ball, but I must say pretty good at paying once you strike a deal. I got an offer recently for $75 for a refinance, and I actually asked them if it was a joke. They upped the offer but never got to a level that was workable for my territory which is rural and high overhead. I hope nobody is desperate enough to accept these lowballs as it is self-defeating in the end.
