Paying Taxes for Notary Business

Hi fellow notaries!

For 2025, I’ll be looking to get assistance from a CPA on how to properly keep records of my notary business for tax filing (if applicable) purposes.

But before I enlist their help, maybe some of you more experienced notary business owners can help me:

(1) How do I know if I have to file business taxes?
(2) What is the annual income amount level that I must file?
(3) What is the penalty for not filing?
(4) Since I’m a sole proprietor with no employees, do I need to file as self-employed?
(5) What is the cap you can make as self-employed when you’re on Social Security Disability Retirement?

Thanks guys!!

These are questions for a tax expert. You should be able to find the cap for earnings at the SSA site.

Yes, that is why I’m actually meeting with a tax expert today. I was just seeking if anyone had any information they wished to share. Have an awesome day! :hugs:

You, too. I was hoping December year end would be busy. Not so far.

Most of us are not qualified to answer. The few who are would need to see more information than you should share in a public forum. I hope the session with the CPA goes well.
