Printers gone?

So I got a message on my printer display that fuse need be replaced.
To my surprise, I found them very expensive and some sell at a price higher than the brand new printer.
The 2nd surprise is that all the printers for small businesses are gone from the market and some opportunistic folks start selling them on Amazon and Ebay at double and triple the price.
If you go to Amazon now, you’ll see the HL-L5200DWT, for example, sells for about $700 instead of $269.
Take good care of your printer and treat it respectfully, I don’t know what on earth is the deal with printers these days.

You did not state printer brand ~ others may be able to offer suggestions. In my WA area Sharp/Cannon will lease a printer for approx $200/month which includes maintenance, toner, etc. and if it goes down will replace machine. This will be next course of action when my laser printers die. Ink and fuser alone makes it worth the change. Also scanning or fax functions are much quicker. I helped 2 small companies in my area hook up with sales rep and they are both extremely pleased.

The preferred brand for most NSAs is Brother.
I finally got a 6200DWT for about $550 (originally $315). I talked to a manager at Officemax and he stated that the demand on the mid-sized printers, which are mostly run by small and home based businesses is very high and that the production is not coping with the demand due to the Covid and less employees and workers for production.

Makes sense that the demand is higher for mid-size laser printers since most everyone has been forced to work from home now with the current situation.

Not sure what state you are in but here is my input from WA State. Sharp/Cannon have joined forces and you can lease (month to month) a multi-tray color copy machine/printer/fax machine for approx $200/month which includes setup, maintenance, toner and other parts supplied as needed. We all know what toner costs so if you are doing a high volume much more cost effective than owning a printer. I have an HP dual tray printer that is still going strong. When my HP dies will be leasing a printer.

Add to that it seems like anyone is swithching to be a NSA. We better fill the bucket befor🤣e it goes down to 20 bucks for a signing.

$200/month, Alice? I pay $50/month rental + $30/month service for a MFC that scans/prints/copies/FAX at 57ppm. 100 page document tray, 100 page ADF and pulls from either the legal or letter drawer as it prints. Have not had any service issues. It will scan in color but prints in B&W which is all I need.

Hi Paul ~ what state is your business located? The rental I was using for an example is WA state and most major business base is in Seattle which is very expensive. My personal experience with Sharp/Canon rentals are 500 page trays for all size paper (ability to hold 4 trays). Includes setup and removal of machine, replacement if machine goes down, maintenance, includes toner and fuser replacement. Scans/prints color and black/white. Higher cost is more than likely for all the bells and whistles. My current HP printer toner costs are $170 every 2 months and also holds 500 pages in each tray, includes machine replacement and service costs in my office. So will make decision as to which next machine to go with when my 3 year warranty runs out on current machine. Technology and availability keeps changing. Appreciate all input of information. Thank you.

Hi, Alice…

I have a Kyocera 3655idn. The retail prices you see on the 'Net probably don’t include the price for the second tray.

I asked but my dealer has no relations up there so I suggest you research a Kyocera dealer and go from there. Most companies wanted to either sell or lease, the one I hooked up with rents it to me.

It has everything you can possibly need for LSA/NSA work, the most important probably being ‘build job’ and ‘mixed size’ features, the former allowing me to feed 100 pages for scanning, stop and then add additional pages before the entire lot gets sent and the latter referring to the printer pulling from either letter or legal as it scans.

Oops, there is a Kyocera 3645idn that has a 75 page ADF so for a few extra dollars I chose the 3655 which has the 100 page ADF.

Best Regards,

Paul…

This is a pretty good deal. Do you mind sharing the information? What company etc…
Thanks.

Evelyn,

Just find a Kyocera dealer and go from there; I would have no way of knowing if you would get the same terms.

If you let me know what state you are in I can tell you if my dealer operates there.

Alice,

I did find another printer or two that also fit the bill with those two important features -mixed originals and ‘continuous scan’- but price became irrelevant when I found a dealer that would rent at $80/month.

Obviously, any one signing pays for the month of printer…
