Question re: two notarial certificates

I feel like I read somewhere that there cannot be two notary stamps on a single document but I can’t remember or find where I saw this. I’ve checked my state’s (NC) handbook & it didn’t mention it.

Two signers, husband & wife. All of the certificates are pretty standard in that there is a signature line for each person with the notary certificate underneath…except for one.

This one has two blocks on one page, so a signature line for the husband with a notary certificate & a separate signature line for the wife with another certificate for her.

It’s not a split signing. I’ll be meeting with both, same time & same place.

Anyone have any info on if I can stamp the same document twice or do I need to add a separate certificate for second signer?

TIA.

No need to add a separate certificate for the second signer - it’s already there, providing the language conforms with your notary laws. I don’t see why you couldn’t stamp both as long as there is only one name on the first cert and only one name on the second cert.

You may be thinking about a discussion had here (and elsewhere) about having both an ack AND a jurat on one doc.

Check your handbook or with your SOS.

Thanks for your help.

Both are acknowledgements & both are worded the same except one has his name & the other has her name.

I did check the handbook but couldn’t find anything specific to this situation.

I suppose they just put 1 Ack/signer to eliminate having the notary add their own form in the event of a split signing. It seems to be a proactive move for everyone’s benefit.

I’ve notarized split acknowledgments and jurats many times.
