Removing yourself from a signing

Hello all,

There is now an option in snap docs to remove yourself from a signing. I used this option after having accepted one because the location was too far. A message popped up that I did not read. It seems there may be consequences if you remove yourself from a signing. Does anybody know?

Depends on how much time you gave them to find someone else. It also affects your ranking on SnapDocs. I would have just contacted the scheduler and asked for an excessive mileage/drive time fee.

Thank you for your response. I accepted and removed myself almost instantly yesterday early afternoon and the signing was for today TBD

locations are included with requests for service. Next time, counter and indicate what you charge to go that far. That’s what I do. Sometimes I get the job and sometimes I don’t but it has prevented me from accidentally accepting jobs that lose money. We get trigger happy because it can be competitive. Also - don’t have to use the remove yourself button you can contact the company directly and say you made a mistake. That’s better than using the remove me button which is system reported.

Thank you for the advice. Yes I have frequently asked for more money for various reasons and yes you win some you lose some! I was definitely trigger happy on this one, acceptance and removal !
I will think better next time. I just don’t want to be blacklisted by this company. They use me frequently and are very pleased with my work

Then one time shouldn’t be a problem. It’ll be okay.

Thanks again. Have a great day!

I agree. Call & re-negotiate. However, SD is deliberately deceptive about location–particularly when it’s an enormous zip code, which is quite common in low-density population areas. Signing location ‘in my zip code’ can be anywhere from across the street to 30 miles and an hour’s drive away.

Yes indeed! I live in the foothills of the Sierra/Nevada mountains and everything is so spread out. Because of winding roads I have the same issue with distance vs time driving! And some roads I prefer not to be on in the dark. Time TBD can be risky! I wish more companies would at least give a time range so you have an idea before accepting.

I have found TBD to be the ONLY good thing about an SD offer as it usually means I can set a mutually convenient time as the signers are really available any time that day.
I’m in the Ozarks
and know what you mean about ‘some roads’.

My fear is they will say “we are usually home by 6:30 or 7”

Wow. I can’t imagine driving my own car in those foothills. I helped create a phonebook for Placerville and it was a waste of time and money because it is all spread out. Winding roads will ruin a car.

They should pay way more for those types of areas.

Sometimes you have to remove yourself from a signing even if it is last minute because of a medical emergency, car trouble or other urgent causes. Instead of hitting that button you can send a message directly to the scheduler updating them of the situation. They can remove you in order to find another notary. Sometimes it is a matter of time or distance. I serve a very large area and don’t always know where the signing is located until I receive the confirmation. If the area is remote or there are traffic issues (lots of roadwork) I will request an additional fee. If the document set is far larger or more complex than advertised, I will also ask for an additional fee. Most of the time I receive it but other times they will find another notary. It is better for me not to have to drive after dark to some remote area than to risk an accident for a small amount of money. The best way to handle this is to review the location and document set as soon as they are available. No one likes to deal with a reassignment request an hour before the appointment.

The same here. I’m in rural area Oregon, a town that is next to me can be a 50 minute drive!

I never see the exact location until after acceptance. For instance, an assignment may give me a town of Morrison, and a zip of 80465. It might be a subdivision several miles away, or it might be a mointain property with a 45 minute drive and some not so good roads. Sometimes i have to renig on an order once i get the address.

I have suggested many times that it would serve everyone well if they would include the actual address. They say they will look into it
but nothing happens. Tho’ once, they said it was a ‘privacy issue’
which is nonsense as every other co. provides that up front. They seem to just like the deception–otherwise known as ‘bait & switch’.

I agree with you! Address makes a big difference especially in rural mountain areas.

Yes, you must live in an area similar to mine. I’ve had to do the same which I do not like doing.

You must be familiar with the area. It can be challenging but it’s the only driving I’ve done for 35 years! Most of the time I enjoy the roads. Especially the very rural back roads that can be a short cut for me and possibly never see one car! So peaceful!
Mosquito rd, not so much. Avoid at all costs!! lol
