I am seeing demands to use poly bags when returning docs. Okay, sure… but the darned things are hard to come by. T&E companies and lenders are able to order them by the box, but a regular NSA can have a heckuva time getting them.
Go online to both FedEx & UPS and open an account. Then you can order anything you need; lowest amount is 50 (I think). They will deliver them to your door in a couple days and they are FREE. A couple of tips… UPS has a tendency to cancel an account for non-use, so spreading your orders for plastic env., then cardboard, then label pouches across the year tends to appease them and if you call and tell them you are a 3rd party shipper who uses labels provided by others, they may not (or still may) cancel your account. Also, never, ever use or order labels as they are tied to your account and YOU will be billed if you use 'em to ship something. Also, you can usually find a few polys in the top of dropboxes.
Very true. Though both limit the amount and frequency you can order.
But the point I was aiming to make is that clients often request requirements from NSAs without understanding exactly why those requirements can be difficult to fulfill.
Haven’t found that issue. But I order smallest quantity available, just do it frequently. Never been a hassle.
Don’t know how far you leave from a FedEx ground center, but I try to drop off some of my orders straight to them, while take good amount of bubbly envelopes and clear plastic envelopes to put inside the labels. I do the same with UPS, but they’re more stingy and they only give me a few
Thank you for the information.
Again, not looking for advice on finding supplies.
The point I am trying to make is that our clients often have a disconnect between their requests (which seem simple to them) and the level of difficulty those requests may cause us.
I get your point. Very simple for TCS and lenders, because they’re big companies that can afford and ask as they wish… our story is different, plus they’re always looking for bargain
good feedback. i cannot stand UPS because the stores tell me “they do not work for UPS” and I reminnd them that UPS is on their shirt! they refuse to give me their supplies, even one at a time. Fed ex all the way!
i haven’t had any complaints on what i ship them in. i see your point though… i saw a you tube video of a lady with the same issue. she said they will doc her $25 if she sends in cardboard. that’s crazy! i have one company recently ask that i add extra tape over the fed ex closing flap.
Great advice!! I am going to open up an account so I will be prepared with the proper packaging I will need.
UPS minimum order is 25. I’ve gone through that in week. So ever 2 weeks I order 2 packs (50). Also, they’re taking a week to deliver. So order early.
I order supplies through the FedEx and UPS website. I get 100 sturdy paks, 50 polypaks, and 150 pouches every two weeks from FedEx never had an issue. I’ve only ordered once from UPS in the past year. Only used about 10 envelopes.
Do you have an account with them?
I believe you will need to open an account to order supplies. I haven’t ordered yet, but will look into it.
I know at the FedEx Office locations in Austin, the poly envelopes are kept behind the counter. Every time I hit up a different location, I ask for a handful of them. They’re usually happy to oblige.
I had a situation with UPS today where the loan package was too large to fit in one of their legal envelopes. The UPS Store guy set me up with a UPS box. It was a little weird, but it worked.
Know your cutoff times for shipping, and which locations have later shipping times. Most of them near me have a 6pm cutoff, but I know of 2 locations that have a 7pm cutoff. That makes my life so much easier when I haven’t been able to get my docs from last night’s closing to FedEx before my first closing of the day.
