I have experienced the same thing - just say NO. It makes no sense to have any job cost you money to complete. I have been saying no a lot lately

. When I started as a signing agent, it was explained that my location was oversaturated. The more counties I was willing to serve, the higher the potential volume of business I could get. I quickly learned that “distance” was my friend. The downside was that companies were pricing their assignments based on zip codes. In other words, those orders were meant for the signing agents in those specific zip codes. It was only when signing agents in those zip codes weren’t available that companies would call LSAs outside of those assigned zip codes. That’s when we had the opportunity to negotiate fees. Then companies switched to automated systems and platforms, which changed everything. We lost human interaction, and our leverage for fee negotiation was limited. This created a sense of fear among new signing agents and a frenzy among seasoned signing agents. The fear stemmed from the possibility of losing an assignment; we quickly understood that signing orders would be taken within seconds. This worked to the advantage of the title companies and signing services. Additionally, the overabundance of signing agents in the marketplace created the “perfect storm”

Let me be honest with you, no one every told you that you need a car to be in this business, You also need a good laser printer (dual tray) and a good sheet feed scanner. I was the #1 notary in Orange county, Ca. I was doing 7 to 14 real estate signings per day (I’m now in Myrtle Beach, SC), you can not do that without a car. I don’t care what you have to do, but get a car, then you will make bid bucks. I wish you luck and I’m rooting for your success…

How can you investigate mobile signing agent and not recognize transportation is a key ingredient to the job. That just seems very strange to me.

You state you are not on a platform. Signingorder dot com is a platform. Signing services and Title companies can use that platform to find a notary.

I received an email from someone that ended up in my spam inbox and they needed a notary to take pictures for a claim. The location was at least 2 1/2 hours from me and they offered $25. Claimed they found my information on a panel. lol!

Thanks for your input and rooting for me. I am not looking to make big bucks but here in NJ it doesn’t require a notary to have laser printer. I looked it up and there is nothing requiring such but with all this new technology these days. We will soon not need any printer to take with us. lol!!

It’s not a notary requirement nor is it a state-specific issue…it IS a mortgage/lender industry requirement, and has been for upwards of 40+ years. Inkjet fades and smudges…laser does not.
