Got a signing this morning for a debit settlement and did not notice when I was at the signing location that they where asking for the credit card photo and the lady to authorize the use of the card. That triggered a scan.
Definitely a situation that justifies a phone call to the client to verify the need. It may have been to pay for their debt settlement services, in which case verify the need first, then have the signer give the info and their consent to the client on the phone. Definitely don’t see the need to make a copy of the card regardless. To clarify, I’ve never been asked to copy a credit card, but have been asked to collect payment for the service (usually a CC/ACH form or over the phone). We routinely have signers fill out such forms in loan transactions for credit/debits, and in other transactions (like loan Applications) where your required to collect statements that have account numbers all over them. My advice, verify the need first before you give up the job, and try and catch these “flags” by reviewing the docs before you make the trip. Hope this helps!
