Texas Driver License: REAL vs. FAKE

My Texan Notaries we must be able to verify the fake from the real, ESPECIALLY WHEN DOING GENERAL NOTARY WORK!

To check if a Texas driver’s license is fake, ** verify the following security features**:

– Look for holograms that change when tilted.
– Hold the license up to the light to check for watermarks.
– Inspect the microprinting on the license for clarity.
– Feel the license for any raised or embossed elements.
– Check for data overlapping the top of the photo.
– Look for color variance printing (fine lines of two different colors as the background).
– Verify the security design print that includes the state capital building.
– Check for two-tone text on the date of birth.
– Ensure there is a working 1D barcode.
– Look for a magnetic stripe on the back, which is a long strip of solid black.

Take time to look/screen that DL. For not doing so, can you cost you your commission, be implicated in a fraudulent transaction, and untold legal costs. Don’t let any signer rush you along while you’re doing your due diligence!

As a whole, have you encountered good fakes or known someone who has? Did you request for secondary ID to complete or turn it over to the signing/title company? I’ve tried to always comment the birthday or season near their birthdays if I feel it questionable. We know if we’re holiday babies so it’s an easy way to slide in my suspiscion while gauging their reaction if they know the birthday on the document. On GNW, depending on the document type, I will ask for a secondary form for my notary journal and/or thumb printing.

I’ve encountered the faked passports but the ID’s they change so frequently and we are a relocation HUB so calling an out of state ID forgery or real has me questioning sometimes. CO ID’s remind me of the fake ID’s in the early 2k’s. Really shiny and all one level and the plastic look.
