To get the newest phone or not?

Do you guys keep up with the newest phones?
Is it worth it to upgrade to a 15 or 16?

I have an apple 8 iphone. There’s nothing wrong with it
but I feel like I’m being bullied into getting a new phone
with all the app situations…

I started my notary business 2 years ago and used an old Motorola I had lying around. It has been more than adequate, and I still see no reason to update to a newer one. It has everything I need and all the current apps work on it just fine. After I drop documents, I log into the platform app (snap.docs, singingorder, notary dash, etc.) and upload a copy of the FedEX/UPS receipt and my clients are happy I do that right from the drop location.

That’s great to hear. A few of the notary apps won’t open on mine, but I think it’ll be ok for now “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it”

You might try deleting the non-working apps and reloading.

Yes, and this will keep your costs down while you get started. Good luck!

Oh, I’ll try that. thanks The Genius app had some sort of glitch today

@jennjoneis its certainly your choice to keep your old iPhone. If for no other reason, I would consider whether you can still receive and apply security updates. With new exploits showing up all the time, I would want to make sure that I had all the latest security updates.

I’ve owned an iPhone 8 Plus, 10, 13 Pro, and now an iphone 15 ProMax. I was able to sell all of them to save on upgrading. While most apps will run on older phones, processor speed and tech features are critical for me. I also use my iPhone for creating digital floor plans and I needed the new sensors. Something elst to consider.

Your phone is your lifeline. Remember, you’re a business and you need to be able to rely on your tools. An iPhone 8 is almost 8 years old. No updates, and apps that don’t work anymore. You can get the new 16E for $599 and you’ll have it for at least as long as you have had your 8. So if you have it for 8 years, that’s $6.23 a month. Cheap. But I’d get it fast. Tariffs are a comin’.

thanks, oh boy tarrifs, that’s something to think about

Thanks for that input. digital floor plans? that’s interesting.

Correction to my reply…tariffs are here. Get one before current supplies are exhausted. And beat the rush.

Same with a laptop or printer (for anyone planning upgrades)

I have several businesses from which i get work through first come, first served e.mail. for years, ive used decent samsungs. Upgrade about every 3 years. Personally, i think iphones are a waste. Im not their market and i dont think im missing a thing. I phones seem to be more for status than function, the exception being certsin dddicated apps. My daughter has an iphone and mine does everything hers does. I also have a senior plan with t mobile and my bill is 1/2 or less than my friend’s verizon. Ive also used unlocked and prepaid. Ive settled where i am because it does what i need. Only thing i found out. Is have your phone specifically for your network.

Absolutely true. I responded about an iPhone because the OP refererred to it. But Samsung’s A series is excellent. The A35 is about $300 on Amazon. The only problem I had with the one I test drove was that it didn’t have a couple of signing service apps that I used, but didn’t absolutely need. I could have made adjustments, but chose to stay with my 2 year old iPhone. It’s not a status thing; the iPhone is a smoother and better experience but the A35 is a good choice and a money saver.

As for service, I switched to Tello 6 months ago. They’re a discount reseller for TMobile. I spend most of my day on WIFI so I don’t use much data. I get 5GB and unlimited talk and text for $14 per month and the service is flawless. An Unlimited plan is $25. I highly recommend it based on my own experience and no, I don’t get anything for my recommendation.

So, yeah, a $300 phone and $25 a month or less service is a great way to save money in this crazy economic climate.

No new phones for me. I never understood why people spend more for the latest devices. About 8 years ago or so i noticed phones got so outrageous in price. Im strictly android now. Had one iphone and hated it. I for many years bought a samsung model that was one or two behind the current, lots cheaper that way. Now i dont even buy the more expensive S series anymore. I buy the A series. Seriously, i need to text, talk, log onto platforms, and I plug my scanners usb stick into it to upload documents. Any phone will do that these days.

I loved my Samsung S7 - had it for quite a while…it slowed down considerably, guessing old age, like me..lol - anyway - replaced it with a Moto G 5g = $40 on StraightTalk…love the phone and does everything my Samsung did..and no, it’s new, not a refurb.

Not sure how it handles documents and platforms as I don’t do those so may be something worth looking into - especially if you’re watching your budget.
