Some of them try to make you feel like “the janitor”. Key word “try”, but IMO, the janitor deserves big respect too! IJS! Don’t come for me! #goldenrule
Thank you I agree , instead if I ask for more I lose the order . I can’t win these title companies don’t understand the rural thing at all.
oh wow . I hope he steps on a lego for that
My experience is that the problem mostly happens when a Signing Service is involved. Incidentally, have you noticed the lower the fee the more demanding the Signing Service is?
Pueblo and Colorado Springs, Colorado were the pilot cities for FedEx 2.0. All Shipping Depots were closed and FedEx Express is now handled by FedEx Ground. In our area FedEx Ground is a contractor of FedEx Corporate. The employees are not directly working for FedEx.
Our final drop times are now 3 hours earlier in the day at places like Post Net & Liberty Print and Ship.
Now, let me offer an idea to the group. Especially when scanbacks are required, the demanding, I mean requesting, party can pay for the courier to pick-up the docs at the notary’s location. Oh wait, what if we aren’t home by the time the Courier comes to our house. You know, once-in-a-while, a notary may have multiple jobs in a day. Even more odd, the notary may have back to back appointments. Has that ever happened to you?
Is there any way a Signing Service can access the Couriers’ available drop off locations, last drop time, and days of operation in the area? Is a Signing Service able to determine the drive time from the notary’s address, the time to sign, the drive time back from the signing to do scanbacks, the drive time to the Courier’s location and the drive time back to the Notary’s address?
Could the Signing Service take that knowledge and inform their customer the feat is impossible? And could they determine this before they even contact a notary?
Could a Signing Service actually advocate for Notaries?
Let’s look at an other industry. The buyer, that is the car owner, tells the seller, that is the repair shop, what the buyer will pay and when the job has to be done. That has never worked for me; has it worked for you?
I’m the buyer and the restaurant is the seller. What do you think? Can I tell them I’ll pay $2 for the best meal they have and I want it scanned to me (LOL) before they ship it by FedEx? And I want it delivered on New Year’s Eve at exactly midnight.
Please advise, respectfully!
I just explain this is the schedule here. Some are okay with it. They won’t find a notary to make same day drop if there is no such thing. I had an industry veteran as a mentor and her response to companies was, you can have scans or same day drop you can’t get both. There are several title companies that no longer ask for scans and i discover scan requests come from the signing companies who are the ones going cheap and getting whoever they can get for the lowest fee. They require scans because they lack confidence in their notaries who they hire by fee accepted and not by experience. Title companies will say we don’t need you to scan and the signing company has a batch of kittens. I even scanned a package I am dropping off today at the Title Company that is five minutes away. And so it goes.
Honestly I wouldn’t stress it. 1st NEVER offer to drive that far to make a drop, that’s just a business no-no. Simply let them know what time shipping ends and that it is not possible, in most cases they tell you to just can and carry on. It would be different if it was something another notary could get done, shipping is the same for all of us. Second, don’t ever think that these companies care about your troubles. Always be civil but be firm. These crazy deadlines are normally because someone on their end screwed up and dropped the ball and the rate lock is pretty much now. Their fault, not yours. If all else fails, don’t be afraid to let these one off offers go. it’s not wirth the headache.
I had a rush must make UPS yesterday. Title had checked online and thought last UPS pick up was 5:30 and it was not it’s 4:00pm. I was able to get the package signed and got to the UPS Store at 3:20 the line was insanely long and I was worried for a minute. After I signed a question I had asked via text at the table finally got answered and I had made a mistake. So instead of a wire the signer was going to get an overnighted check but the woman at Title called and was a little rude. She declared I checked online you can go fix this and drop by 5:30 and I said no last drop is 4pm here. She told me I was wrong. I said you are not from around here apparently. She hung up on me then called back and said I can’t reach the store where are the documents. I said they are dropped I uploaded the shipping confirmation at the website. She snarled at me the terms for taking this order was you could make same day shipping. To which I replied and I DID.
Then about 30 minutes later the escrow officer called and apologized because she heard her assistant speak to me.
It was ridiculous. But the signer was really nice he was like I’ll get a check day after tomorrow don’t worry about it. So that was good. But the drop deadlines here in my area have shortened up a lot. FedEx cut services. I always communicate that now. And if someone wants a Saturday ship I charge for it. It’s a drive.
Ya both FedEx and UPS have both changed times and not always updated them online. It’s a headache.
Right! One on each bare foot
That’s right. I start letting them know upfront too. Sometimes, there’s even a same day drop request when the signing itself is at 5:30 pm. Come on, be realistic! That shouldn’t even be part of the instructions.
Same here. If I’m in the area where there is an actual FedEx store, great. If not, CVS/Walgreens/Dollar General is what you’re going to get! No other option.
Last minute instructions are a deal breaker unless they can be accommodated with an acceptable amount of pain and suffering. In the case where same day shipping is not an option (either delay in receiving the documents, borrower not available, the timing, or extraordinary circumstances) I will ask if the loan can be funded on a scan and ask for the increase in fee. Some companies can accept a scan. In some circumstances they ask for a scan and same day shipping. In this case I will ask them which is more important, the scan or same day shipping? Nine times out of ten, they will opt for the shipping.
Here, here!
How about the increasing demands for “office drops”? Excuse me - where’s my fee? I’m ensuring your delivery time as well as saving you a minimum of $50 for a carrier, and you expect me to do that for NO ADDED FEE?
I point out the miles and drive time involved in an office drop and tell them it won’t happen. It’s not a deal breaker. If they wanted office drops they’d give us appointments close to their office. That’s how I feel about it.
I get notaries are under performing but some of these companies with 13 pages of instructions, 2 patriot acts they tell you how to fill out, etc. like why is this a mini novel if you have no trust don’t hire me . and these other ones “taking our pay” for a mistake. what about late docs? what about their errors ?
I agree Chandie and even more heartbreaking is that despite flawless service, it might take one mistake to have you off their roster for month or forever. I was once banned for six months for a single date, off one digit on a loan packet that had four signers, signing at 6 AM. What are the LPOA and E&O for if not to fix these little mistakes? Sometimes it’s not even wrong, just someone doesn’t like the way a signer made their numbers! That company took me back after I sent them an email and let them know that statistically, that one error made an error percentage of rate .00000000001 I told them I thought their notary tracking software had glitches. I was put back on.
I do that too, I say this is a 2 hour drive one way so 4 hours total with a total of x miles , …they usually don’t care. I’ve seen those orders sit there with 10-20 price changes and still no ones taking them, then I see it at the fee I offered so I click and I of course don’t get it .
