Wearing a lanyard

I do mostly GNW. I wear a badge with my photo on the front and a QR code on the back for the client to leave a Google review.

Nobody has ever asked me for identification. I just created the badge to make it easy to leave a review.

This is exactly what I do. At confirmation, I send a text message with my business card which has my Notary license number, my photo, and NNA badges. I always ask for a picture of the front of their driver’s license and encourage them to verify who I am using my license number with the state. I’ve only had maybe 3 customers in the last 4 years to be uncomfortable with texting back their driver’s license.

I don’t wear a lanyard based on my previous Law Enforcement career as the lanyard can be held on to by an angry signer. I use a “clip on” company “ID” card on my shirt.

I refuse to show signers my Government issued ID due to the risk of identity theft. When asked I tell the signers I left my wallet at home.

I’ve had signers refuse to show me their DL/ID. I explain the lender/title needs a copy, not me. If they have any questions they should call their Loan Officer.

that makes sense to me since the hiring party already vets us, it is not the signers job to do that

I never wear a lanyard and I will never wear one, no need for it!

thanks. Makes sense to me.

Wearing a lanyard diminishes your appearance, besides, borrowers already know about you, carrying important documents and setting the appointment before with them, no biggie…

Yes, I proudly wear a lanyard that contains my driver’s license and other cards. I don’t see anything wrong with identifying yourself. In this day and time, scammers are doing all sorts of things. I have nothing to hide. If it bothers you that someone asks for your ID…hmmm?

I think it make me look more official.

How do they know you? I always call the signers and introduce myself and then confirm the appointment. If they have never seen or met you, how can you assume that they know all about you?

Wow! you run into angry signers? Reading some of these posts make me think I must have the nicest signers in the world. You guys can come up with the most incredible scenarios. Identity theft? The signers should be the one concerned about ID theft. Sounds like you put ppl on the defensive easily to not show you their ID.

Easy solution: title company can provide signer with my photo also
if they assigned the notary

Like you, the vast majority of signers are wonderful people to encounter. It’ s the bad actors that are the most memorable.

They do not know you, and probably never will, they expect you to show with documents to be signed after you set the appointment with them, you show up, perform the signing accordingly to schedule, making sure everything was signed , review and then leave, if everything goes well signers probably never know anything else about you…
If wearing a lanyard makes you feel important and professional that’s up to you…

Well, not important, it’s the way I’ve always presented myself and I am comfortable with it.

Well done! Properly identifying ourselves to borrowers is what we agree to do when we become NNA certified.

I had never thought of sending my digital card ahead of time. Thats great! I may just start doing this. It would be a nice touch especially for the ones that want to meet in a public place and we dont even know what eachother looks like.
