I concur 100%. I did not receive my first signing for nearly 6 mos. after I became a Notary Signing Agent. It was a signing nobody really wanted because it was a 4 hr. drive. I wanted to get my feet wet and get experience since I invested in the business, but I was not charging enough for mileage and was losing money initially. But it was a trade off to now be able to know what to look for and not to jump at any offer until you come here to Notary Cafe and check to see if the service is on the
“preferred notaries list” or not . . .
Oh boy! Hard pass! No thank you!
You lost me at the Zoom table, etc… I have done Zooms for attorneys but not for closings. There is enough going on without all that. I do have a couple signing services that have apps. that know my whereabouts and asks me to checkin and checkout, which I don’t mind because most services want to know if closed or not right away anyway. But I do not understand why the signing service believes it’s their concern to babysit to see if you made your journal entries. The journals are mandatory by the state and for notary’s protection.
That is exactly right. That journal is not meant to be shared. I wasn’t sure if it was just the entry for the signing but still. That sounds suspicious to me.
Per the 2026 CA handbook: “A notary public must respond within 15 business days after the receipt of a written request from any member of the public for a copy of a transaction in the notary public journal by supplying either a photostatic copy of a line item from the notary public’s journal or an acknowledgment that no such line item exists. The written request shall include the name of the parties, the type of document, and the month and year in which the document was notarized. The cost to provide the requested information must not exceed thirty cents ($0.30) per page. (Government Code sections 8206(c) and 8206.5)”
