All drivers licences including the notary's?

Have you ever been asked by the title company to include a copy of the signers
AND YOUR drivers licence with the package?!?! Sounds wierd to me
I’ve completed nearly 3000 closings and never had to do that

Someone else posted here they had been as!ed to do that. I, for one, would politely ask the hiring party why they needed MY DL… unless it is to compare signatures on you license and your notary certs

I’d send them a copy of my Notary Certificate as it bears my signature.

exactly I don’t feel comfortable giving them a copy of my DL

That sounds like a good idea. I emailed title asking for a reason and proof that they needed it
I haven’t heard back from them. :sunglasses:

Me, neither! Unless it’s HEAVILY redacted. (Well, NO; not even then). My state driver license and my state notary commission are completely unrelated. The fact that we’re background-checked up one side and down the other ought to be enough! Sheesh! :flushed:

Most states driver licenses are public records, which are accessible to the public. In Florida -
"Under Florida law, motor vehicle, driver license and vehicular crash record information are public information. The Driver Privacy Protection Act, 18 United States Code, Section 2721, keeps your personal information private by limiting those who can have it. The department automatically blocks personal information in all motor vehicle and driver license records that we maintain. You do not need to do anything to have your personal information protected.

Personal information covered by DPPA

DPPA restricts public access to your social security number, driver license or identification card number, name, address, telephone number and medical or disability information, contained in your motor vehicle and driver license records. Additionally, emergency contact information and email addresses are restricted pursuant to Section 119.0712(2), Florida Statutes.

Information not covered by DPPA

Non-personal information contained in motor vehicle and driver license records such as vehicular crash records, driving violations and driver status information are considered public information."

I would inquiry why do they need a copy of my driver’s license and what or how do they plan to use my information.

Thanks for that information.

I don’t recall this request

Its a second conformation the signers are who they say they are. It also confirms we vetted them correctly.

@earl226 no Earl…it is not. A copy of the notary’s DL does NOTHING to confirm signers’ identity or our vetting process

I am talking about the signers drivers license.

the post concerns the notary licence

Were you also asking as a witness for the signing? That seems very strange to me, if for no other reason.

  • Acting as a witness ?

I was not acting as a witness in this case. It is a strange thing but everything went through without me sending my ID YAY!

I’ve been doing loan signings for 9 years and I’ve never been asked to send a copy of my driver’s license back with the loan package. Most likely, I just wouldn’t do it. That’s not something that I ever agreed to do and see no reason to start now.

Ive never been asked but most of us work off of platforms or submit vendor packages to agencies and Title companies that require us to upload our Drivers Licenses anyway.

There are also some areas that are experiencing more fraud than others and perhaps they are wanting to make sure you are actually you and completing the signing instead of someone posing as you. Weve all heard of Title fraud and are aware it does exist even if we have not had it happen as home owners

If asked I wouldn’t have an issue providing my DL or referring them to where my credentials are stored on a platform or vendor site.

Just me. I just dont really care.

No, I have not been asked to copy my license, only the signers.
