California Fees

Hello all

I have a client that has a 37 page sellers opening package and the husband and wife need to sign 19 of the pages since I’m so new I still get confused on what I should charge. Could anyone help?

Also, Do I have to do a journal entry for all of those 19 signatures or just one journal entry per person signing the whole document?

Thx Randy

No such thing as one-size-fits-all. What does it cost you to print, keep your car running, pay your taxes, etc., etc. Figure it out, add what your time is worth and you’ll have your answer. As a Signing Agent, we are not now, nor ever been paid per signature–or even per notarization as you are when doing Gen’l Notary Work.

As far as your journal entries are concerned, being in CA, I believe your SOS put out a newsletter clarifying that you must record the notarized docs…and you must do one line item per signature notarized. So, if there are 4 notarizations you will have 8 entries in your journal…4 for each signer…and they have to sign each one.

Your SOS has the newsletters on their website…or contact them with your question for clarification. Agree with @Arichter on fee

Accessing the database to locate information about potential clients has saved many of us an inordinate amount of time ‘chasing’ payments for Services professionally provided to potential non-payers . . . :crown:

The sole purpose of your presence at the signer’s residence is for the purpose of notarizing a document. Any document that necessitates your unique expertise will either have an acknowledgment or a jurat. A detailed record of these notarized documents must be entered into your sequential journal along with the appropriate signature. Your compensation is determined by the number of signatures in your journal unless you are representing a third-party vendor who is providing a fixed payment.
