Gas prices are going up again

Wow! 4 signings in one day at a minimum of $160 a piece… that’s terrific! May I ask what state you’re in? I’m in downstate NY and it seems like $70-$90 (maybe $100) is the baseline offered per signing, and that’s for refinances with sometimes 250+ printed pages. Sometimes I ask if they can adjust their fee due to the number of pages being printed, and once in a while they’ll go up $15 for extra printing.

I’m in WA State. Notice you purchase Premium gas and pay a debit fee ~ two things I never do. I drive a KIA Soul full tank would be 14 gallons of fuel (Regular grade). I get gas when tank filled when it reaches half a tank and only have to get gas twice a month. I keep assignments within 25 miles or less round trip. Occasionally go beyond that limit. I use Fred Meyer (Kroeger) for gas and get up to 40 cents off per gallon because I also purchase my prescriptions in the store. Also use Costco for gas. Perhaps a positive spin on increased gas prices is newbies will stop accepting low ball fees. Good luck to all.

michellebuccheri6812’s question above, what state are you in? I don’t work for less than $150, but offers have been getting lower and lower here in Michigan. Some are down to $65 for a full re-fi.

No Don, I’m certainly not mad, just expressing my thoughts. I took the first few assignments to get the experience but now I do negotiate my signings. It’s still not what I would want it to be but they are willing to pay me more.

I agree with you, but I love, love, love Loan Signings I have supplemented my work with GNW which I also love but it doesn’t pay as much as LS’s. I don’t care to do finger printing and inspecting work to get money. So how do we reinvent ourselves when the market is slow? Did I say I love, love, love, love, love Loan Signing Work.

I so agree with you. You are absolutely right. If some people consistently accept low ball fees then it become an expectation for all Notaries to take it,
We definitely have to ban together to not accept low fees.

To each it’s own, but my time is much more valuable.

Unfortunately for myself and others in California we are at $6-7 per gallon. California is the highest i hear. Along with our taxes and inflated prices of homes lol. California just high priced for everything. Ughh :frowning:

Ok, that just means that California residents need to be more resourceful and clever.

But it isn’t $50 an hour actually. By the time you deduct your expenses and taxes it is much lower. And many notaries forget to add the expense of future expenses. Replacing machines, your tires, you will now need more oil changes, etc. I try hard to average $40 an hour before expenses and taxes.

You might be surprised that there is more to it than that

I was born in Berkeley CA and raised in Bay area. Relocated to WA State in late 60’s. Miss CA but don’t miss high cost of living. Some of the methods being used to recycle water can’t quite get out of my head some of it is recycled toilet water ~ yuk! Used to being frugal and will continue to be a Mobile Notary for a few more years. Notice that people taking the low ball fees in my area are getting out of the business. Business won’t work if only taking low ball fees unless a person exhausts themselves taking 10 to 12 signings a day. I feel fortunate because cab drivers in Kitsap County WA average $20 a trip. Think about how many trips they need to make a living.

I feel like there should be some type of consequence to the people that came into the business took low ball fees and then got out of the business. I think it’s too simple for them to just do that and leave. I want something done to these people because it effected my business and how I do things.

The bad thing about training mobile notaries is they are not taught the business management portion of this field. So when they jump in with a positive attitude they don’t realize all the pitfalls. Guess this could be said for any type of business including small cafes, etc. Too bad our education system in middle school and high schools don’t teach children about bank accounts, stock markets, business plans, taxes, coupons, discounts, etc. Practical things needed in daily life. I never did use that new math concept. I do use excel spreadsheets and insert formulas. People can educate themselves now online but when I was in high school we had manual typewriters :sweat_smile:

C’mon, Jason, what the heck are you talking about - [you] “want something done to these people” because it negatively affects your business and how you do things. This is America, remember? Anybody can do what they want because it’s a free country. If they don’t break the law, they can take low ball fees if they want to. Who are you to tell them to get out of the business? And, that’s not what this forum is for, telling others what business operating practices are allowable in your judgment.

Better you should figure out ways to do your work regardless of what your competition is doing that you conclude is simply not good for you.

!00% agree here! Besides, why penalize the notary taking the low offers? What about the client offering the low offers? If gold is going for $200 per ounce, but everyone is only offering $125 per ounce, you have no control over that! How desperate are you is the question? You either sell, or you sit back and wait…and for what, to get what you want? Only the creator of the “machine” gets that!
