Gotta be careful

Received an email from Rocket Close today - “At Rocket Close, we’re always looking for ways to protect and empower the people we serve.

We’re implementing an important update to our identity verification process that will help keep your closings secure and smooth.

Beginning January 1, 2026, we’ll require all parties to present a current, valid government-issued photo ID to complete their transaction.

We will no longer accept expired identification documents at closing.

This might seem like a small detail, but in our world, small steps create big safeguards. Recently, our team caught an attempted impersonation during a routine ID check. An issue that could have derailed a family’s long-awaited move. These moments remind us why we’re committed to constant innovation that protects our clients.

By sharing this update early, we’re all helping ensure closings continue to run smoothly, securely, and on schedule. We know you help clients feel confident during one of life’s biggest moments and that’s why our continuous commitment to communication and improvement is so crucial.

Have questions? We’re here to help. Reach out anytime if you need support communicating this update to your teams or clients.

Together, we’re building a closing experience that’s not just safer, it’s also stronger for everyone involved.” In Florida, we can accept driver’s license that expired five years or less (“In Florida, a notary public can accept an expired driver’s license for proof of ID if it was issued within the past five years and includes a serial identifying number. This includes driver’s licenses and ID cards issued by U.S. states and territories, Canada, or Mexico; U.S. passports or foreign passports stamped by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS); U.S. military IDs; veterans health ID cards issued by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs; and inmate IDs issued after January 1, 1991 by the Florida Department of Corrections for inmates in custody.”). Of course Rocket Close can establish their own policies, regarding their closing policies.

Thanks for sharing that, cfletcher. I work with Rocket but have not received that notification. Wonder if it’s meant for RON only? I’m in CA and we don’t do RON yet. CA notary law is same as FL – we can accept an expired ID provided it was issued within 5 years.

UPDATE: Notification received 12/19/2025 at 7:34am (PT).

I do a lot for Rocket as well. But many of the Rocket orders do NOT want an ID copy sent. Instead they ask for a notary to certify the ID so examining an ID is imperative.
