I really can’t find a definitive answer about this so any Illinois Notary can help me here.
I’ve been getting more calls from people/family members who want me to notarize the signature of Mom/Dad etc.
These tend to be elderly people, but if they can sign their name and acknowledge that they know what they are signing, and their relationship with the person who called me, I will notarize…
My problem comes up when I tell son/child over the phone, before I visit, that I’ll need a CURRENT Driver’s License, State issued ID or Passport.
Recently, many children are telling me that while they have a Driver’s License, it expired a year (s) ago.
Can/should/is it legal in Illinois to accept an ORIGINAL but EXPIRED Illinois Driver’s License?
Most lenders at loan signings insist on current/non-expired IDs which makes decisions making for me easy.
Lately, I’ve just been saying “No” as I simply don’t want the risk that later on, someone will want to challenge the signature based on my not having a current State Issued ID.
Not from IL but here’s what I found…your IL statute - hope this helps.

Im an Illinois notary and can tell you that during Covid, the state suspended a persons renewal of their Drivers license until Dec 2022. After this date DL’s must be renewed.
