Help with being fired

I did a signing for Premium Closing solutions and made mistakes.stupid ones. I offered to go back and fix them and was told to wait. I had a bunch of emails and voicemails after the signing about the mistake. I got mixed up and thought a voicemail was for today, telling me to go back to the signer to fix the mistakes. I did, but the voicemail was actually from yesterday and before they told me to stop and not contact the client to fix the mistake. I got a call from premium closings and they chewed me out. They said they’ll never hire me again. I’m crushed.

Hi Carrie, sorry you had to go through that. I think all notaries at some point end up with this kind of situation. Many companies have their own procedures when it comes to fixing mistakes. Some are very picky, as you have found out. Some companies can put a marker on your profile to not book with you. Some of those flags are on a timer (12 months, 24 months, etc.) some are permanent.

I know of an agent working for Rocket Close (Title Source at the time) made a mistake about time of appointment with a Chase client. Chase blacklisted her from their closings. To this day, 8 years later, she still can’t get closings from Chase. Sometimes the lessons you learn are hard.

I would try to reach out to the company in 12 months and try to re-establish lines of communication.

Also, I would encourage you to get a very fast scanner. My procedure is, double check the document after signing at the table, then, in the office, put it through a scanner (60+ pages per minute), and check it again on the PC. This way you triple check your document before it going out. You will catch 99% of your mistakes this way, and will be able to fix them without Title ever finding out. Over the years, I’ve had to go back once or twice becuse of something I missed, but it never got to the Title Company. As far as they know, my work has been perfect for 15 years.

@carrieh0829 Sorry to read about your direct experience of “made mistakes.stupid ones.

We’re all human & mistakes will occur.

It’s our responsibility to ensure that the professional services we provide as Professional Signing Agents [PSAs] are :100: percent ACCURATE. :tada:

This is why I often express within multiple threads on the Notary Cafe forum to TRIPLE-CHECK your document package while STILL at the signing table with your signers. This step to Triple-Check will establish & maintain your reputation as a PSA! :white_check_mark::dizzy:

It’s instrumental to your business success to honor your professional work by taking the time to perform the Triple-Check.

At the beginning of the signing appointment, I review with the signers the “Process” to ensure they’re cognizant of the work & to set their expectations.

Many times over the years that I’ve provided these professional services, the signers have shared that their loan officer advised them that it will only “take a few minutes” to execute the document package. As a result, they’re surprised during the Confirmation Call or at the onset of the Scheduled Appointment of the “guesstimated” time for the signing.

======

It’s a very small world in this business sector. You want to do your best to keep mistakes at a minimum.

It’s integral to your business success to give yourself the optimum opportunity to provide professional services by purchasing & intensively studying a well-established & reliable training & certification program; i.e., Notary2Pro.com

This type of training & certification will give you advantages & allow you to reliably provide Professional Signing Agent [PSA] services that are :100: percent ACCURATE :sparkler:

Some places are more forgiving than others. Also, some mistakes are easier to forgive than others. Sounds like your mistakes were relatively and easily preventable, but they happen. Just use this as an opportunity to become more aware of your process and to QC your work better. I believe every notary has made a stupid mistake. We are human.

The couple times that I have made mistakes, I did defend myself and put things into context.

Title or the signing service does not always take into account the conditions you may be under. Screaming or unruly kids, pawing pets, creepy cousins asking you on a date, the location they schedule not having chairs or about to close and you are only halfway into the signing, language barriers, hostile or argumentative signers. You can’t always operate your best under these distractions.

Forgive yourself and move on. Just make sure that you give extra special effort from now on, especially on new title or signing services clients.

Don’t let them talk down to you give it right back to them we all make mistakes it’s ok

You triggered my memory of a conversation I had with a signing service owner who referred to his herd of notary signing agents as cattle.

So sorry. I sounds like you got pretty twitterpated. There are times when i have become confused over instructions and sometimes corrections. To reduce corrections, i go over each page before i scan it. I check for initials, signatures, my stamp, etc. If i find an error, i contact the signer immediately. Many people have the ability to print a document, correct it, and send it back. Generally a return next day does not work because of dates. At the table, take your time. If at anytime, you have a question, then call your contact. Ive had a number of errors from whomever produces the documents. Wrong addresses. Wrong figures, etc. Lately aboutv10%. Later, at your offices, if your errors are found and you have conflicting messages, contact the signing company and tell them you are confused and lets clarify exactly what’s needed. Hope this helps in the future. Dont dwell on the error. Just keep moving. A patient dies on the operating table. It is of course, upsetting to the doctor, but then he says " next."

We’re all human and all make mistakes. I’ve had my own conflicts when I was starting. The best advice I received was to take them off “my list,” knowing I don’t want to work with difficult people like that. There’s a lot of other avenues that can be a lot more fulfilling than allowing people to degrade us. Learn from your mistakes and realize that the lessons may extend beyond that particular incident.
