How long is considered too long for payment?

In the past 4 months, the companies seem to take longer in payment to be sent for assignment. I am currently trying to get paid for a signing on May 7, 2026 from Notaries Express, LLC in CA. I was told the checks are mailed on Monday. They do not reply to any emails I have sent, nor do they reply to my voice messages. We all need to be aware of the great companies, but also doubly aware of slow payers. Has anyone been experiencing this problem?

@JanaDrury Great question! :tada:

30 days is reasonable to wait for payment. Collections should start on day 31. Hopefully, you did not delete the loan docs and can find the Title company somewhere on the paperwork. I would light a torch under the signing service by sending an invoice to the Title company which in most cases will cause them to reach out to the SS to find out why the Notary wasn’t paid when SS already was. Or Title will say they paid the SS and it’s not their problem, to which you can then reply, “I will report you to your state’s Dept. of Insurance for theft of services - contracting with deadbeats who steal from their subcontractors.” When enough notaries complain to the title company about deadbeat SS’s they hire then hopefully they’ll cut ties with them. That’s how I’d handle it.

Check the terms you accepted when you took the job. Some pay at 60 days and tell you they pay at 60 days. But for May 7 - that’s a long time. I did get paid this week for a May job but it’s a company that pays 60-90 I don’t take many from them. So if you accept terms that are long there’s no theft of service if they are within their terms stated.
