I asked the signer to buy me lunch because

This was a last minute signing that i accepted and found out that i didnt have enough to print the whole signers copy. So i only printed the copy to get signed. the old couple kept messing up so i had to go buy paper print and meet again and said they owed me lunch. Was I wrong? i’m the one who had alot to do.

You’re really living too close to the edge, my friend.

Spill it, Arichter! What is that all about?

You are wrong on so many levels! If it was an assignment, that contract was between you and the contractor. The signers had a contract between themselves, the lender and the title company. You were an otherwise uninvolved third party, there only to collect the signatures of the borrowing couple (no matter their age, skill or ability!)
The first issue that sent this signing down the pike was yours to own alone. You are the one who had insufficient supplies to do a fully credible job of preparing for the signing. That the signers kept messing up on the documents had nothing to do with you not having a second copy to rely on to complete the signing. If you had to go purchase more paper and make a second copy for them to complete was a lack of preparation on your part. Mistakes happen, come prepared for that possibility!
Under what condition or protocol did you see that the signers owed you anything, let alone lunch. You are the one who kept messing up! It is your responsibility to lead the signers through the process so that they don’t mess up. That’s why we are there, to witness and guide the signing of the documents. To answer your question, yes, you were wrong, wrong, wrong. You didn’t skirt too close to the edge, you took a head dive off the cliff. But, I’m sure you will do better next time.

I hope you were kidding with them and said it in a joking fashion. You better hope that the signing service don’t get wind of that. That is not acceptable, not to mention unprofessional of you.

what about being a respectable member of society and doing the right thing, if a repairman comes and does a job for you, you offer a beverage. since these times are slow us notaries must be resourceful.

i dont think its that deep

There is a difference between an offer and an ask! You asked the couple to give you something for doing a job. Some jobs come with challenges. It’s the nature of the business. You don’t get a tip for doing what you are supposed to do. Do you still not see the part you played in this?

This is a joke right?! Like you just posted this to ruffle some feathers? Please say yes.

I don’t know if you realize that this is a public forum, which means that anyone can read what you post. So be careful of what you say and SS has access to this discussion too. So if you don’t think what you did is a problem then… you do you…

also i didnt mess it up! they kept signing wrong!

The title company doesn’t tip us, that’s why whenever a signer asks if they pay me (they ask on occasion) i say the title pays me but they do not tip unfortunately and then sometimes the signer will tip me.

I’m curious… how long have you been a signing agent?

well they need to read the thread about the low ball fees

almost a year, why do you ask?

Okie Dokie! Good Luck with your business!

You always have the option of not accepting. So that is on you. If you didn’t think or could not do the job correctly the first time you should not have accepted it. I hear no accountability on your end for the part that you played. That is not a good look for a processional business owner.

I know right!!! SMDH… Sigh

Well, its hard when the SS kind of begs you to do it and you want more signings

That sounds like another excuse to me… IJS
