Saturday contracts making the rounds again today because snow is on the ground and predicted for the weekend.
Maybe notaries ask for more in fees when the weather report comes out and the SS unassigns them, because these offers are coming out at the same basement fees but snow is in the forecast.
Same as johnsonps306. I try to keep up with the local weather reports. If offered a signing and I know there will be adverse weather, I inform the hiring party why my fee is higher and that there may be delays.
In 2018, I was involved in an auto accident on the way to an assignment. I ended up with medical expenses in the amount of $150k and unable to work for over a year. I learned from that experience, the show does not stop due to misfortune happening to us. These companies do not pay enough money for me to put myself at risks due to inclement weather. Everyone have to be their own advocate and make their own decisions. I do not follow the post office creed “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Loan Signing Agents from the swift completion of their appointed loan signing assignments”. I do the exact opposite. I quite chasing loan assignments/fees. I can live with that decision and work another day. We are irreplaceable to our families and love ones. We have only one body, one life, once the damage is done, it can never be change back… .
You are so right, auto accidents can happen anytime. You are right, we each have to decide for ourselves to work during inclement weather. I just shared my experience. One thing to consider, the responsibility and liability consequences that isn’t being discuss, the handling of loan documents that we are transporting. In my situation, I was on my way to the signers, so the documents had not been signed and there was enough time to notify the signing service to get another LSA to handle the assignment. The situation could have been much differently, if the loan documents had been signed and notarized.
I use Tripcheck.com before I head out. It will tell me what the traffic flow is like, if a lane is closed, and if there is road work going on. That said, tripcheck.com cannot always keep up with rapidly changing conditions, as was the case last week during a wet and windy storm. There was very little debris from trees on the road on my way to the signing, but 2 hours later it was a different story. The wind increased a lot and the road was littered with lots of tree parts. I drove over one tree that lay completely across the road, but was able to go around everything else. I do love my Explorer.
