For those that do jail/prison signings, how did you get started? Did you visit bail bonds/lawyer offices?
I read the forums about these and contacted our local jail and they told me they have a notary on staff.
I’d contact the local jails and detention centers, see how to get on their approved list and see what their procedure is for this type of work. Just be prepared to have to stay there in the event of a lockdown while you’re there.
Good luck
I have done 1 prison signing in all my years. I had to contact the Prison, speak to upper management, explain what my appointment would be for and with whom, date and time. They reported everything to the Warden, and I was approved for the appointment. Once there, I had to show my ID, open my briefcase, only take in 1 ink pen, and sat in a closed room with a window in front of me where the Officer could see what was going on. At first, I was nervous because I looked up the inmate and his charge(s) and they were not pretty, once there I introduced myself, “no hand shaking allowed” sat down with him and completed the signing. FYI: I did charge an outrageous amount, and it was honored.
I tried doing that going and reaching out to correctional facilities, prisons, etc., and they’ve told me that they just have notaries on staff because it’s easier and quicker.
