Low Ballin' - Know your worth

Happy 2026, fellow NSAs -

I just logged onto one of my platforms and saw this assignment posted. The best part is that it was accepted.

This is why signing companies freak out when I provide quotes for my services.

We need to do better and stop accepting these ridiculous offers. I can say without a doubt that none of us is registered as aNon-Profit Organization. However, if I am wrong, please correct me. I’ll wait.

Why anyone would accept something like this is beyond me.

Stay strong, folks, and know your worth.

V/R,

Karina

@enotary.305 Valid statement (mirrors what I often express via posts & threads on the Notary Cafe forum).

For those who are uncertain how to calculate Fees for the professional services you provide, please Review the thread below. It will walk you through the creation of your own customized Schedule of Fees.

So I see those all the time and counter. If someone else counters and is lower than me, maybe they get it instead of me. And how do I know what the final rate was? I don’t. How do you?

Folks make a lot of assumptions about rates. And if someone countered faster than you and higher than you - it could have gone to that person instead. If we’re not the hiring company we don’t know what the final agreed upon rate was.

Right now I’m sitting here in front of my PC with more than 28 years and 100,000 notarization signatures experience without somewhere to go. $60 might actually convince me though. There’s lots of you reading this with little or no experience just waiting for this same opportunity to drop in their laps too. Too bad this type of PUBLIC SERVICE was hyped as a real $$$$ money making opportunity.

Seems like California is saturated, sorry to hear that.

For the past year I have been countering these types of offers with what I feel is acceptable for the signing. I may not get as many, but the ones that I do get are at a fair price. It’s worth the hold out.

Yes, I concur. In this business, one has to be a proficient negotiator. I always counter.

This. I see $50 offers, counter and receive the appointment-but it’s never posted the rate they accepted.

There are over 10,000 mobile notaries in the region I cover so counter-offers don’t work so well. There’s always a bottom-fisher or newbie that’ll take the $60 refi with scanbacks leaving no room for a reasonable counter offer.

The counter offers I submit to the better signing services or the ones that know my work are quite often accepted. I try to be reasonable and I’m happy with what I get (usually). It’s dog-eat-dog.

My problem is with the actual lack of humility of the current low-ball offers. The hiring company already knows what the borrower is paying for the service; it’s clear as day on the CL, and it’s absolutely the hiring service’s goal to maximize their profit on that deal. I work with several hiring companies that pay me $125, and the borrower pays them $200. The lead is worth $75 to me because I’ve created a client who personally knows and trusts me.

Now, let’s focus on Low-Ballers

For example, when I take my family out to a nice dinner, my bill is about $250, including the tip. Can you imagine how tough it would be to run a restaurant if the waiter got $200 for taking the order and the restaurant got $50. Well, welcome to the new normal for low-ballers in our industry.

ten THOUSAND? That’s insane. I go to one county because there are less than ten.

I’ll keep my wide open people free spaces, thanks LOL.

Good for you 306, the notary public commission is a public service endeavor and 9,900 of Bobby’s competition would not be your competition because it’s real work.

I don’t even know what this says, Joe. Real work? You think I’m running a hobby? All righteee then.

LOL, and you’re explaining legal documents?

I don’t explain legal anything. But I’m competent in English. It’s not even a “hobby”.

Waaaait a minute? Being a notary ISN’T a hobby?
I was told that it surely is. You mean to tell me I’ve been doing this for free all this time?!?! Having laughs with the signers, playing with their dogs, weaving through traffic in the rain, going without lunch/dinner/happy hour? And you get paid for all this?

How much do you guys charge for this service, anyway? Do you bill them by mail or just hand them a slip when you’re done? Oh, yeah, and I suppose you pay taxes on your tips, too. Yeah, right.

Somebody’s been pullin’ my leg, y’all.

There is always a cheaper wh— on the street. My opnion is, they get what they pay for. I know I was the 3rd notary on a reverse mortgage. I just registered with a new company who wrote back and said my requested fees are too high and that in my area they always pay much less. I guess it’s competition.

If other notaries wanna go broke, so be it. You can only give away your profits for so long.
